Evolving since its inception from a charming small hotel to a luxury five-star house, Eden au Lac in Zürich, Switzerland has been welcoming guests for nearly a hundred years. This hotel is in a superb location on the lake and a lot of rooms have Great Lake views. That is spectacular. But I find a few things so frustrating about the hotel. The rooms are so heterogeneous that you can never tell what you’re getting - funky layout of the bed, desk or no Desk, no side tables at the bed. Bathroom is fine albeit the sinks are over designed and lack practicality. And everything is just a little off. It was v hot in Zurich but the AC was not working in my room. Not the end of the world but for the price, not good. My room service trays never had a napkin! Coffee came with milk on the side (but no sugar!). I expect more from this group but it’s not delivering here.

La Réserve Eden is a nice small luxury hotel, very well place in front of the Zurich lake, at walking distance of several points of interest at the heart of the city. I booked a room with a large terrace on the first floor. The terrace is quite nice, although I was not able to fully enjoy it due to the May weather, cold and windy during my stay. And the street just below it (Utoquai) is rather busy and noisy, which could make the experience less enjoyable. The room has been very nicely renovated by Philippe Stark, I love very much. Weak point is the lack of storages and wardrobes, as well as not so many amenities provided. I’ve tried the Kitchen & Bar, a very good 1* restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff there are really warm, kind and attentive. They didn’t just provide excellent service but made us feel welcomed, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. Could not say the same about a housekeeper lady or other who does our turn down service, she clearly showed irritation and displeasure when I asked for the room to be turned down later. Such reactions make guests feel uncomfortable and are not in line with the level of hospitality one would expect. In the contrary the bellboys and doormen are exquisitely nice, I was positively pleased they greeted me with my name, while this is the first time I came to the hotel. The last thing that I also regret in this otherwise lovely hotel is the lack of a spa, although the hotel does provide in-room massage performed by external therapist.

I have stayed in other La Reserve hotels but the Zurich Eden au Lac is now my favourite. Fantastic interiors - comfort and furnishings. Super staff - all. The general manager Nicole Zandt greeted me when I arrived and later helped me secure a table in the rooftop restaurant which in the warm weather is apparently always over subscribed. The hotel also introduced me to Sparkling Tea 'Champage' - a much appreciated alternative to alcohol. It was left in my room - complimentary and really delicious. Thanks to everyone - I will be back

A place with history - yet modern - elegant and casual at the same time. Settled almost directly at the Lake. Very close to Opera House surrounded by nice shops and restaurants. Definetly the posher part of Zurich.
