Delightful staff Cotswold charm

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Room (number 1) was beautiful with lots of extra touches. Period Cotswolds style.Bathroom gorgeous with free standing bath in centre and modern large shower. Comfortable bed and quiet. It was a very hot day (28degrees) and there was a freestanding fan on when we arrived which kept us cool all night. We arrived early for a wedding and they turned the room around for us to change. Delightful staff delicious breakfast and lunch. Parking at rear. Would stay here again. We would book direct next time for late check out which is then 1300.

Thoroughly disappointing stay - a pub with a mixed agenda

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We were booking a trip for our six month old and our self on a Friday evening prior to attending a wedding on the Saturday. We’d actually booked a mr and Mrs smith hotel located in Cheltenham but on booking the hotel the team at that hotel saw we had an infant on the booking and advised the hotel Could be noisy so we cancelled the booking and found the wheatsheaf inn - a village location - nice and quiet so I thought. I made the booking and had various back and forth about our six month old being with us. On arrival at check in however a man on reception immediately saw our baby and looked at us and said but there’s live music tonight (clearly knowing this would be problematic) and promptly took us to a room located right outside where music would be played. I asked if we could move rooms but none were available. Needless to say it was a like a nightclub in our room until at around 10.30 I eventually told the manager we needed the music to be turned down (the band had stopped singing at this point) as our baby was in so much distress. My husband and I had been looking forward to a quiet dinner but one of us spent the time with a crying baby (as our room was so so noisy) while the other was listening to a great but extremely loud band. The hotel is marketing as a mr and Mrs smith hotel and demanding those prices (and room was 450) but the focus is on locals (which is absolutely fine) but as a result it doesn’t have a clear identity. We would NEVER have booked the hotel if they had informed us of the music that evening and while the manager was apologetic the amount spent on the room far outweighed the accommodation and overall experience. We also forgot a jacket because it got left when we had to abandon and on collection on the Sunday we were met with a very unfriendly man on reception. I think the pub needs to decide where its priorities lie. Thoroughly regret booking the hotel and won’t return.

LOST ITS SPARK

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Stayed one night recently after an amazing family do here twelve years ago . First impression was after being taken over by Youngs Brewery is that it has lost its spark . They have updated the interiors to a more corporate feel and it’s looking a little tired around the edges . My room 4 is described as Cosy but I found it very cramped, dingy and cluttered . The bedding was very nice and it’s quiet . I didn’t feel it was worth £174 a night as I’ve stayed in much more spacious rooms in the Cotswolds for less than that. Dinner was average but competition for good food in this area is full on and it did not stand out for me . Staff were all helpful and pleasant but the corporate ownership has taken its toll and for that reason sadly I don’t think I’ll be returning .

Exorbitant pricing ordinary accommodatin

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

If, like me, you believe paying more will bring you additional quality then do NOT book here. It is simply not worth what it is charging. The hotel confirmed that I was in one of their best rooms which was very ordinary and very overpriced. Food is good but drinks, too, are expensive
