Two adults and a black lab pup stayed here for three nights in June 2026. A bit pricey ($600/night after all fees & taxes), but we liked it quite a bit considering we have trouble finding good dog-friendly lodging. Very tranquil and the trip was good for a recharge of the senses. We only left the resort on one day to go check out a waterfall trail. Otherwise, lots to do on-site: hiking trails, disc golf, paddleboarding, canoes, tennis, pickleball, pool, hot tub, etc... all included. Extensive XC ski and snowshoe trails in winter. One of the rare instances where the exorbitant "resort fee" delivers things I actually want to do. It was nice to be on vacation and not have to plan and drive to activities every day. There is a guests-only beach on Chittenden Reservoir that we had all to ourselves early and late in the day (dogs allowed at beach and in water). Just grab a paddleboard and go--I was the only person out on this huge body of calm water except for the loons, surrounded by the jagged peaks of the Green Mountain Nat'l Forest as a backdrop. We stayed in a "cabin" that is more like a studio within a townhouse, with one or two other units attached. The cabins have kitchenettes and we brought breakfasts and lunches. We had anticipated driving into Rutland for a better variety of dining options, but late-day inertia related to the 20-minute drive, plus better-than-expected dinners at the inn's restaurant, kept us there for all three evening meals. Outdoor dining was available, with stunning sunset views of the hills and reservoir. A couple of minor caveats related to noise: Our cabin was in a building of three units, and we could clearly hear more than we wanted to of our neighbors--one woman yakking on her phone until 11 p.m. in one unit, and in another, an older gent coughing up a lung as he performed his morning and evening bathroom ablutions. Not sure if the walls were just too thin or if people (as is often the case these days) are oblivious to the need for quiet respect for others in shared spaces. Also, this unit of cabins was directly adjacent to the inn's parking lot for staff trucks, vehicles, and the maintenance shed. On one weekend night, there was a wedding on the premesis, and the shuttle vans were in and out of the lot quite frequently until the late hours running guests back to their houses in a different part of the property. And first thing Monday morning, the maintenance crew was getting ready for work at 8 a.m., with mowers, tractors and trucks all revving up, plus other background noise of music playing and walkie-talkies squawking. None of this would keep us from booking again, but we would definitely request a cabin in a quieter part of the property (there are several). Having said that, the maintenance guys that we met were super-friendly. One saw us playing with our dog, and came over and gave the pup a brand-new tennis ball. Another time, a maintenance worker saw me searching for a place to dispose of bagged dog waste (there aren't many containers for this), and he offered to take the bag from me and get rid of it--now THAT'S excellent service!

This is the worst place I have ever been in my entire life. It’s in the middle of nowhere. No cell service. Sledding was ice covered and injured several children. Way too pricey for what is offered. One house on the property is beautiful, updated and clean. The other houses that has 5 beds and 4 bathrooms was not even clean. Dusty like it has been sitting for months. Ketchup or something stuck to the sink handle and dead bugs everywhere. A random persons hair clumped and stuck to the bathroom wall. They definitely have a water leak and mold everywhere. The rooms do not have basic bedding or window treatments. We moved to a different hotel and cut our losses because I was scared for my family and children. We will never recommend. I wasn’t able to upload the other photos.

The good: the place and setting are very pretty. They supply plastic sleds for the sledding hill. The bad: be forewarned that if you get a lower room, you will have to lug your bags up and down a very narrow staircase. My teen daughter fell and hurt her hand. The room is fine, but there were two nights during our stay that we didn't have hot water to shower until around 10 pm. There is no coffee in the rooms. If you want some, you have to go all the way to the dining area, and they pack it up after 10:30 am. We found the breakfast to be sub par, which was a pain, because then we had to drive all the way into town every day. They charge $400 for a sleigh ride, which we thought ludicrous. The ugly: So, when I booked this trip I specifically asked if food was available on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The front desk assured me that there was food. On Christmas Day at 6 pm, we went downstairs to eat and were told that there was no way we could be seated, the restaurant was too full. (!) I was horrified. We were never told that we needed a reservation. We went back to our rooms and had cheese and crackers for dinner. I really hate writing bad reviews, but my hope is that the owners will read this and make some changes. It's a far way to go to be disappointed.

I recently stayed at the Mountain Top Resort in Vermont and while the property clearly aspires to offer an upscale experience, several basic amenities and design choices fell short of expectations—especially considering the premium rates. To start, the absence of a coffee maker in the room was surprising. Most hotels today offer either in-room coffee or a communal coffee and tea station, but neither was available here. For a resort aiming at luxury, this felt like a miss. My corner room on the first floor lacked a thermostat, which meant I had to manually adjust the temperature by opening windows—an awkward task given that a couch blocked access to them. The closet had no door, which might have been quirky if not for the refrigerator inside it. The fridge emitted a bright blue temperature light that lit up the room like a laser when the lights were off, making sleep difficult. To make matters worse, the closet had a motion-activated light that turned on when I walked by at night, nearly blinding me. Space was another issue. The bathroom had no counter space for a toiletry bag, and the dresser top was completely dominated by the TV, leaving nowhere to place personal items. These design choices made the room feel cramped and impractical. I was here for a business meeting, and unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this resort for business travelers. It’s not set up for work-related stays and lacks the functionality and comfort needed for a productive visit. While some of these issues might seem humorous in hindsight, they made my stay uncomfortable. For the price point, I expected much better.

We stayed in one of the houses on the resort. It was a beautiful place. Our own private pool, hot tub, 5 bedrooms each with their own bathroom, 2 big family rooms, dining room, big kitchen, screened in porch and amazing scenery. Would recommend it to everyone!
