Upscale Vibes, Motel Realities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I recently stayed at the Mountain Top Resort in Vermont and while the property clearly aspires to offer an upscale experience, several basic amenities and design choices fell short of expectations—especially considering the premium rates. To start, the absence of a coffee maker in the room was surprising. Most hotels today offer either in-room coffee or a communal coffee and tea station, but neither was available here. For a resort aiming at luxury, this felt like a miss. My corner room on the first floor lacked a thermostat, which meant I had to manually adjust the temperature by opening windows—an awkward task given that a couch blocked access to them. The closet had no door, which might have been quirky if not for the refrigerator inside it. The fridge emitted a bright blue temperature light that lit up the room like a laser when the lights were off, making sleep difficult. To make matters worse, the closet had a motion-activated light that turned on when I walked by at night, nearly blinding me. Space was another issue. The bathroom had no counter space for a toiletry bag, and the dresser top was completely dominated by the TV, leaving nowhere to place personal items. These design choices made the room feel cramped and impractical. I was here for a business meeting, and unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend this resort for business travelers. It’s not set up for work-related stays and lacks the functionality and comfort needed for a productive visit. While some of these issues might seem humorous in hindsight, they made my stay uncomfortable. For the price point, I expected much better.

Worth the drive.

We stayed in one of the houses on the resort. It was a beautiful place. Our own private pool, hot tub, 5 bedrooms each with their own bathroom, 2 big family rooms, dining room, big kitchen, screened in porch and amazing scenery. Would recommend it to everyone!

Great family resort

We stayed in cloud 9 and loved it. Perfect for our small family. The food at the resort was great. The pontoon boat ride was nice. We enjoyed going to Killington for a day. O my wish the outdoor pool was heated!!

Three day family getaway with a couple of recommendations.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Just returned from a three night stay with the family, which included Husband myself and my two girls ages 14 and 12. First resort is gorgeous. Sits literally on top of a mountain and the views are spectacular from our luxury queen room. Honestly, you can’t find a more beautiful location. The girls enjoyed the horse back riding all three days as that was the highlight of our stay. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and put us on horses that were a kin to our ability. We ate at the restaurant for dinner and the food was delicious. However, eight dollars for four rolls in the bread basket appetizer was a bit steep I thought. The coconut ravioli was to die for absolutely scrumptious. My husband got the pad Thai, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Kids got the chicken fingers. Now here are constructive critiques.. The room had a beautiful view overlooking the patio, the restaurant, the pool and the mountains. However, as much as I love fire pits, the fire pit was directly below our room which brought the smoke in in the evening on the 2nd night, so we had to turn off the air-conditioning and then the room became hot so then we had to put the air-conditioning back on again, which brought in the smoke and I eventually fell asleep. We were thinking of switching rooms, but we thought we were just stick it out. It wasn’t so bad on the third night as we kept the AC off as it was a cooler evening. The front desk did mention that we could switch rooms if we wanted to, but it would eventually be just one floor below us which wouldn’t make a difference so we just decided to stay where we were. OK, not picky stuff… the room was nice however it was very dark. It could use more lighting. Also the bathroom had the pedestal sink but very limited counter space so we all ended up putting our toiletries on a very small sink and there was a shelf, but that was taken up with towels. I guess I’m just used to hotels which have these long counters which the ample space to put your stuff. Not a big deal but worth mentioning. The AC was OK. It was a dated fixture and it did seem to keep the room cold during the day but woke up hot in the middle of the night as I think it might’ve turned off because it might’ve been cooler outside, but I tend to sleep on the hot side so I’m always keeping the ac in the room year-round. Pillows were hard… If you want a soft pillow, you might want to ask if they have any we did not ask or just bring your own. Also, the gym is small but has the minimal stuff you need to get your workout in. However, it does not open till around 7 AM which is late for me cause I’m usually the 5 AM er who is done by 7 AM, but that’s OK. There’s plenty of places to walk before hitting the gym in the morning. It would be nice if the gym could be opened earlier around 5am or 6am at the latest for us early risers. Also, being in the mountains , there’s not going to be a strong cell reception so just work off of their Wi-Fi, which was fine. But people who want to do work which require a secure connection you might find a little bit challenging. My husband wanted to check his stocks but did not want to jump on the Wi-Fi to do so so we could not do that while we were at the hotel. Had to wait till we get to the Killington area For stronger signal. The next time you come, we are going to bring our dogs and rent a dog friendly house. They have houses in the property that are privately owned that rent out to the resort so we will plan on that next time. It was too cool for us to use the pool, but that looks nice as well. We did take advantage of the pontoon boat ride, which is a one hour leisurely excursion around the lake. However, thrill seekers take notice there’s only a 5 mph limit on the lake so when I say leisurely, it is very leisurely. All in all a nice stay—a couple of recommendations above and we will be back to rent a house next time.

Rambling Brook for the win

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We had an absolutely amazing stay! We spent 3 nights at Rambling Brook, attended welcome drinks at the Beach Pavilion, attended a wedding at the wedding knoll and an indoor reception. The resort was beautiful, the staff was fantastic and Rambling Brook exceeded our expectations.  I would highly recommend the Mountain Top Resort. We loved every second of our trip.
