Even better than expected

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Always heard of this place and finally decided to visit. Right in the heart of town this hotel is truly first class. Great accommodations and well maintained property. The service could not have been better. Incredibly accommodating and very helpful friendly staff. Be aware that the resort is rather large and staying in the Falls Cottages it’s quite a hike to the restaurants. Thanks for a wonderful time!

Mountain Fairytale Surrounding

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Pulling up to the Old Edwards Inn feels like stepping into a fairytale. The crisp mountain air, blue skies, and picturesque landscaping had us immediately questioning whether what we saw was real - and in fact, it was! The setting is picturesque, and all of the common spaces at the resort are thoughtfully and tastefully decorated. It was next level, more elegant than a Ritz Carlton, and lived up the Relais et Chateaux brand. Not a speck of dirt or trash seen anywhere on the premises. All of the common fireplaces were tended to, all amenities were out for guests to enjoy, and thoughtful details were addressed. We spent a lot of time at both of the pools, and they are gorgeous, well maintained, clean, and appropriately staffed. We stayed in one of the Falls Cottage Suites, which was perfect for a couple. The suite was beautiful, the shower and bath were great, and the tile floor was heated (as was the towel rack). The living room had a beautiful fireplace we curled up in front of on a rainy evening. The welcome cookies and champagne cocktail were a lovely touch. There were plenty of towels, the robes were some of the coziest I’ve used, and it was a pleasure to stay in the room. The only slight drawback I would note is that the room type promised a private outdoor space - which I presumed would be a balcony or outdoor terrace. We did have an outdoor terrace protected from the area by tall bushes, but the vantage point was the side of the building - no view and not really a place you’d want to sit and relax. We made use of the Spa which is one of the best spas I’ve visited. I had a great massage with Autumn. The locker rooms are immaculate and high level. However, only the women’s locker room has a sauna and steam room - the men’s only has steam room. The tea, flavored waters, and areas in the spa to relax were beautiful. The attendants were helpful and considerate. The biggest drawback of this property, in our opinion, was the food. The service in the restaurants was wonderful, and the decor and setting was five star, but all of the food was just ‘ok,’ not truly stupendous. All of the dishes on the menu relied heavily on sauces, mostly cream based, or fatty additions like bacon to up the ante. Salads were all very heavily dressed. Nothing was particularly exceptionally seasoned. I would have liked to have also seen more healthy, light options in all of the venues, particularly for lunch. Also, from reviewing the menus at restaurants in the surrounding area - the menu seemed very typical for Highlands, so this may be a regional preference. Overall, we loved our stay and are already planning a return trip next year.
