The Big Island of Hawaii is well known for its amazing coastlines and stunning vistas. But this multi-faceted island also features a rich interior, with a vibrant volcano, charming hamlets, and the award-winning bed and breakfast, Kalaekilohana. Recalling Hawaii's plantation days, the inn's genteel architecture houses just four lavish suites rich with local hardwoods that add an elegant homey touch. Designer beds, french doors opening onto panoramic balconies, and cascading rain showers make quite an impression in each flower-perfumed space. A stay at Kalaekilohana Hawaii Bed and Breakfast always includes a hearty dose of Hawaiian hospitality and comfort, so be prepared to be catered to. You may even arrange luxurious spa treatments. Get ready to really escape the outside world â€" the inn creates a television-free environment, meaning you can toss the remote control and rediscover the art of chatting on the spacious veranda.

The B and B was outstanding. It was clean, beautiful, well designed, and welcoming. Candice is a gem and we cannot say enough good things about her. She treated us as if we had been friends for years. Plus she is a terrific cook. Our breakfasts were healthy, delicious and filling. In short we want to come back many times. We miss Candice and the home already!

This was my second stay at Kalaekilohana Inn and retreat, and I immediately felt at home again. As before, I enjoyed the personal and friendly hospitality of Kilohana and Kenny in this quiet, relaxed and well located accomodation with beautifully designed rooms, an excellent and varied breakfast and the option of lovingly prepared dinners by Chef Kenny, including traditional hawaiian food. I will never forget the lovely evenings on the terrace, enjoying a drink together with the hosts following dinner, glazing the milky way while learning many interesting facts on Hawaii. I do hope that I will get the opportunity to return to this beautiful accommodation again.

This was a unique experience. We highly recommend adding dinner as part of the package (Kenny's culinary skills are legendary, just ask around on the island). But also, the quality of the hospitality and the upkeep are exceptional. It's worth a trip just to stay there for a relaxing vacation; and yet, there are numerous truly unique tourist attractions within short driving distance, just ask the hosts (Kenny and Kilohana) for suggestions.

An amazing place to stay and we feel very blessed. Kenny & Kilohana were fabulous hosts and nothing was too much trouble 😊

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at this private hotel in the south of Big Island. The meals were great and each was specially prepared for us by a master chef, using local ingredients. Our hosts gave us useful tips on how to spend our days. This included going to a local National park that we hadn't heard of. The walk up through the old farmland to vantage points and seeing the remains of the farm was amazing and a highlight of our two weeks on Big Island. They also gave us tips on when and how to see Green Beach (go early!) which was a great half day. They also gave us tips on going up the lower part of the east side of the island - some places to see and cafes etc. All in all this was an excellent combo of high quality dining, great big days out, stimulating conversation with our hosts and a luxury room plus indoor and outdoor spaces to unwind in.
