When it opened in 1873, The Chanler at Cliff Walk was a mecca in Newport, Rhode Island for financiers, industrialists and tycoons. Following a multi-million dollar restoration, it today epitomizes the glories of yesteryear with lavishly adorned mansion accommodations, and garden and ocean villas that boast private gated courtyards. The name of each room reflects its décor, from the romantic English Trellis Room to the Renaissance Junior Suite evocative of Versailles.

he food and service at breakfast, lunch and dinner were first rate. They matched the food and service at other hotels like the Bristol in Paris and the Villa d'Este on Lake Como. We would come back for the food and service whether or not the Chanler was in Newport. The warmed meusli at breakfast was the best we've ever had and the tasting menu at the Cara was one of the best we've ever had.

The dining experience was great but the room for the price could be better. Bed was terribly hard. You would just sink into the sofa uncomfortably without support. Same with the bed bench. View from the balcony was terrible as 30% of was the buildings AC units. A few little details should be better for the $6.5k we paid for 3 nights.

Our stays at The Chanler have have always been great. As repeat guests, my wife and I keep coming back for the hospitality, ocean views, and incredible atmosphere. From the moment you arrive at check in you are treated special. Every detail, from the immaculate rooms to the thoughtful amenities, are true five-star quality service. Breakfast here is our favorite and the location right on the Cliff Walk is unbeatable. Each time we stay here leaves us feeling relaxed and eager to return. The Chanler is our special place to stay when we visit Newport. We love it!

One of our most enjoyable get away trips. A great walk around town with classic, off the boat lobster rolls and clams surrounded by the history and architecture of the Gilded Age. Classic New England.

This trip has been on my to do list for almost 20 years. I had never really visited any place in New England. Ostensibly, this trip was to attend the Newport, Jazz Festival. But it ended up being a respite in a magnificent setting for five days. there are many beautiful views along the cliff walk. The Chanler, however, seems to be set in the most optimal position. There are beautiful sunrises every morning from the Nantucket suite. There is the sound of the ocean washing against the shores that seems to speak to every person. there is a beautiful beach, just steps away from your front door. The level of service and quality of the Chanler is unparalleled. I have traveled and stayed at many five star accommodations. This certainly is among if not the most impressive that I’ve had the opportunity to experience. Far too often when we think of value, we simply think of “cost“. The Chandler is not inexpensive, but it is worth every penny and more. Superlatives are often thrown around in discriminately. The Chandler, however, is just simply magnificent. There’s not much more, I can say than that.

My husband and I just returned from a 3-night stay at The Chanler at Cliff Walk. Our stay was fabulous as was the staff, the Spiced Pear Restaurant and our room. It is located perfectly at the beginning of Cliff Walk and has great access to all the mansions. We have used Luxury Link many times and our stay at The Chanler was one of our best. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone!
