About the Hotel

When it opened in 1873, The Chanler at Cliff Walk was a mecca in Newport, Rhode Island for financiers, industrialists and tycoons. Following a multi-million dollar restoration, it today epitomizes the glories of yesteryear with lavishly adorned mansion accommodations, and garden and ocean villas that boast private gated courtyards. The name of each room reflects its décor, from the romantic English Trellis Room to the Renaissance Junior Suite evocative of Versailles.

Reviews for The Chanler at Cliff Walk

Excellent Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

This hotel was the gem of our trip along the coast. The staff is excellent and the resort exceptional. Remy’s Loose was fantastic, and we had breakfast in the mornings and drinks on the lawn in the afternoon. We were in The Georgian room, which was worth the extra steps to get to the third floor. It is close to the historical homes and the downtown attractions. The view of The Cliff Walk is not to be missed.

Great food, spotty service in the hotel and tired rooms

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We can’t say enough great about the food. The chef is extraordinary and it carries through breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our room was OK. The Frette sheets are divine. The bed was not comfortable. There is very little space in the room to sit. The deck, overlooking Eastons Beach had potential but the hard chairs without any cushions were very uncomfortable to sit in. The decor in the inn is delightful, a great blend of contemporary and classic. But the decor in the room is seriously lacking. Plastic plants, faux hummer figurines and a phone/clock that was from the 90’s. The service was inconsistent. Ordering ice took from 5 minutes to nearly an hour (3 calls). Craig the driver for the complimentary in town limo service was a gem

The Chanler offers an unparalleled opportunity to relax at a European-styled, waterfront retreat, located just minutes from Bellevue Avenue and downtown Newport. This boutique hotel sets a new standard for vacationing in this historied and universally revered destination.

Heavenly magical experience.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The Chanler is more than just a hotel stay. It is more of a magical experience, from first arriving and greeted by exceptional staff to the housekeeping, which is phenomenal, and comes twice a day .To the views from most windows of the Atlantic Ocean ,to the grounds, which are almost heavenly in their beauty with beautiful flowers, perfect lawn ,ocean breezes, beautiful views of beaches and oceans. The rooms are all different and unique …each one is beautifully decorated .The on-site restaurant is an experience unto itself. The staff is great ,the food delicious, and the atmosphere unbeatable .My best times on this trip were when I was dining at this restaurant. Both for breakfast and lunches, but their Cadillac car will take you in town to dine at whatever restaurant you want to go to. I have been there six times and each time was amazing. It is more expensive than your average Newport hotel room, but if you can afford it, you definitely should. It will not disappoint. It has never disappointed me. Already planning my next trip back there.

My husband and I just returned from a 3-night stay at The Chanler at Cliff Walk. Our stay was fabulous as was the staff, the Spiced Pear Restaurant and our room. It is located perfectly at the beginning of Cliff Walk and has great access to all the mansions. We have used Luxury Link many times and our stay at The Chanler was one of our best. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone!
