We had planned to stay a night in Niagara-on-the-lake to experience the town better than the usual rushed itineraries that included the Falls & NOTL in a single day. I wanted it to be a very good experience for my daughter & had booked the Shaw Club having read very good reviews about it. I have mixed feelings - certain excellent aspects that I really appreciated but others were a big letdown which I felt took away some of the experience & certainly felt that it was not worth the cost (even accounting for the fact that NOTL is likely to be more expensive). The site is central, but not right in there allowing some peace & quiet. The hotel is very pretty, and just opposite the theatre. Reception was excellent; we had arrived quite early and hadn’t expected to get a room, but the desk very kindly held our luggage for us. We sat in the lounge to get ourselves sorted for a short while - very good seating (excellent books including a copy of all of Shaw prefaces - not sure if it was accidental or due to the Club). It’s quite rare to see books in a lounge and I was looking forward to the experience. Free coffee & cold water in the lounge. We also got complimentary macaroons which were delectable (though not Ladurée). The hallways & the room were very old fashioned, there was a nail on the floor which pricked my foot (that’s a NO at any level). A/C was old, noisy and ineffective. There was a sauna in the room, really? The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows; the only disturbing aspect was the noisy A/c that we couldn’t turn off as it was quite warm. The bathroom was tastefully done and modern (unlike the room), but alas the water was like warm not hot like one would want after 8-10 miles of walking. All in all, a let down as I had really high expectations. Potential is there, but the management needs to up their ante regarding the state of the rooms. I would not pay the price for the rooms we got. The stay in the village was very good & we may come back, possible looking at alternative accommodation.

We had a wonderful stay at this charming and beautiful hotel. Our room was very comfortable, clean and in close proximity to both the lake and downtown area. Will definitely be back!

What a charming and quaint hotel-5 Star from the beautiful grounds, comfy rooms, Zees restaurant and bar was fabulous, hospitality from Jennifer and staff top notch. The location can’t be beat- steps away from the theatre and shops on Queen St. Will be back!

The staff are very professional but approachable and personable. The lounge in the lobby was excellent, with Keurig coffeemaker, water, comfortable seating and library! The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Really like the pillows! The spa bath is amazing, as is the huge shower with a rain shower and handheld nozzle. Parking available and hotel is located right across the street from the Shaw Theater. Share bikes available as well.
