No doubt Quail Lodge is a beautiful setting in the Carmel Valley, but in all honesty this place is in need of a revamp. The grounds with the mini 9 hole putting course and beautiful ponds was nice as a view. The rooms left a lot to be desired. Our room was very dated and I believe it was def one of the older rooms that they did not do much to. Every time you leave the room or the people in the room next door the doors slam with such force it could wake the dead. There were high ceilings with funky looking and unattractive beams with a ghastly and gaudy chandelier hanging in the middle that looked like something from a medieval torture chamber. The whole room needs to be redone. A very used and cheap looking rug was on the floor between the beds that looked ready to be dumped and was bought at home goods. The only thing I liked really was the window seat. The bathroom was straight out of the 70's in a bad way with terrible fluorescent lighting. The whole bathroom should be demo' ed. To top it all off I had to have a groundskeeper come pull down some large spider webs on our porch area. Lastly, our room door was propped open for about 7 hours while we were out for the day by staff at the hotel. We came back to that as quite the surprise. For $ 600 plus on Friday evening and $700 plus on Saturday evening and touting this as a 5 star resort, upgrades are needed desperately. Do not stay in room 252 unless you want to enjoy the same.

We’ve stayed at Quail Lodge & Golf Club twice while family members were running the Big Sur International Marathon, and it’s become a favorite. The location strikes a perfect balance—close to town, yet removed from the busiest tourist areas, making it especially peaceful and relaxing. During our most recent stay, we encountered an issue in one of our two rooms and notified the staff. Moments like these are what really define customer service, and in this case, the response made all the difference. The manager, Aaron, reached out to us personally and ensured everything was resolved quickly and thoughtfully. That level of care made a lasting impression, especially as this trip was meaningful for our family. Though my mom is an avid traveler, she hasn't been able to travel in recent years, so her having a smooth, comfortable experience during this weekend getaway was important to us. It’s moments like these that really define great hospitality. We’ve also stayed at Carmel Valley Ranch on other occasions. However, for ease, comfort, and overall experience, Quail Lodge & Golf Club is the better fit for our needs. Thoughtful amenities—from the putting green and pickleball courts to evening s’mores, fire pits, wine hour, and in-room Nespresso machines—add to the relaxed atmosphere. Aaron deserves special recognition for delivering the kind of attentive, thoughtful service that sets top-tier properties apart.

I enjoyed staying at The Quail. The grounds were inviting and tranquil. Rooms were a nice size, and the amenities were what I expected. Its close to everything so great place to stay if you want to relaxing stay. Smores by the fire was fun each night as well as the mini golf set up. Will be back for sure.

One of my favorite places we stayed on our trip! Such a beautiful place. Loved the robes, firepits, smore kid and free bike rentals. We were upgrated somehow and it was my birthday! Staff was amazing. My only complaint is the fitness room is not 24/7 and the steam room smelled very moldy. Get some Benefact Decon 30 in there please!!
