There are nicer places to get married than FRL

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

My daughter decided to have her wedding here after seeing photos on a social media platform. I do not think the cost was out of line or anything like that but if you're going to think about getting married here, I want to tell you about our experience. My daughter was told they needed to have a certain number of rooms booked. They are over $400 a night. Outrageous price for a room here. There was no full-length mirror in the room, the a/c split was 12 feet off the floor and has a horribly bright LED display that you cannot shut off. Makes it very hard to sleep. We always check the bed when we get into a room. It appeared as if the bed looked slept in and not changed - see photos and we found 7 long black hairs in our bed - see photos. Our daughter said that 3 guests, including here had bugs in their ice. The drinks are extremely expensive and not very good. The dinner was fine no issues there. The biggest issue with this place - at least for my wife & I, - was a 180-photo slideshow video attached to music that was going to be played at the end of the speeches - my wife having the last speech. My wife had put an immense amount of work and time to get this video right, even working with a videographer for the right timing for the photos and music. When I arrived at FRL for the wedding I went immediately to the girl that was the wedding planner that day and I reviewed what the plan was for this video, it had to be done perfect. She assured me it would be looked after, even though she was off at 4:00 that day she would ensure the girl on staff after her would know what to do. I must have checked with her 5 times about this through the day, including with the girl that came on after she went home. The video would play on the screen in the hall. So, they loaded up the video and had it up on the screen ready to play, but it showed the title of the video at the bottom. Of course, my daughter saw this and asked her mom jokingly what it was so that part of the surprise is now gone because now she knows it's coming. Not sure why they just left it on for all to see and didn't minimize the screen. We got to the speeches, and my wife goes up and says her thing to her new son-in-law "this is for you" and when the wedding planner hit play the sound only went through the tiny speakers in the laptop. The staff did not perform an audio check! So the entire wedding party and all the guests were not able to enjoy and "feel" the video that my wife made because you could barely hear the song that was timed for the pictures. It was an incredibly awkward moment that should have been a wonderful one!! I was devasted and heartbroken for my poor wife. She worked so hard for that and for the lackluster performance of the wedding planner staff to not even really seem to be engaged at this was also very disappointing. Overall, we are very disappointed with Fraser River Lodge and will not be recommending anyone stay there or much less get married there. We have 4 daughters and I can honestly say that the other 3 will not be getting married at this location. They blew it. Thanks for the lifetime of bad memories from our daughter's wedding FRL.

Nice views, terrible wedding venue

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

While the view and photos for my wedding was amazing, the staff and communication was a nightmare. They would go back on their word and change "rules" after the down deposit was paid. They stated that taper candles are not permitted but in our emails I have proof with a photo asking for permission if they were suitable as long as flame was enclosed in which they said yes to. Come to actual day they said they are not permitted, completely disregarding their written approval and charged me for "damaged linens" When all of this could have been prevented had they actually said no to the candles in the first place. We asked multiple times for photo proof of said damage and the would not send photos. We asked to keep the linens so we can resell them ourselves. My aunt got the linens from the venue and they are still white. I wish we could have had the promised photo proof before they took money out of our account. Prior to booking I was promised I could book a site viewing come spring as we booked venue date in mid winter and we are from out of town and couldn't drive due to roads. Come spring time I contact them to book a site visit in which they responded they don't do site visits. I screenshotted their previous email saying they would and then they allowed my mom to view as they couldn't make a date work for me. During our finalized meeting a month prior to the wedding they told me we could bring in our own late night snack without an additional fee. Night of the wedding they pull my husband aside interrupting him mid conversation that he was having with a guest to say we will be getting charged a $200 fee for supplying a late night snack. Luckily the next day we disputed that charge with them. Each staff member would tell us something different and were not at all on the same page. Which was extremely frustrating. There were many tears shed during this stressful time due to their lack of communication and changing their minds on policies. Even day of, staff weren't approachable. I had other vendors attend my wedding that day as I hired them for services and they ALL had clients with the same issues we had. We trusted the reviews on google, but unfortunately they delete the poor ones. Would never recommend this venue purely due to staff and management. I have formerly worked in the wedding industry for 10 years and have never seen a bride be treated this poorly. I just want awareness to be shared so brides can go in knowing what to expect. Keep all emails and have everything agreed upon in writing. They also up charged me an extra $10 per person 5 months prior to wedding. In which they do to every bride. Give them a lower rate, pay deposits and then up the food fees. I know Fraser River Lodge and their management won't do anything about this, I just hope they can properly train all mangers and staff to know ALL the same information when speaking to clients so people don't get told one thing and then later find out that isn't the case and get charged with hidden fees down the road.

The most relaxing vacation I ever had.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 months ago

We went to David and Taryn's wedding and stayed two nights. What a relaxing experience. I would highly recommend the Bison #1 suite. Our room was wonderful the bed was most comfortable my husband loved the pillows. The Bisons and Donkeys were so nice to see every morning. At the end of the evening, it was so much fun to be in the hot tub and watch the baby bison run around. But most of all the scenery was to die for I can't tell you how wonderful a feeling it was to walk out on our deck and have a beautiful view of the mountains, river, Bisons and Donkeys very calming. The day of the wedding was special the staff were most welcoming, and the food was great too we total enjoyed the day of celebration. I would highly recommend Fraser River Lodge for your next vacation or special celebration. Can’t wait to go back.

This is a stunning resort on the Fraser River close to Agassiz, BC. The scenery is stunning, and the fishing is great!

This is a stunning resort on the Fraser River close to Agassiz, BC. The scenery is stunning, and the fishing is great! The food is delicious, accommodations are cozy and upscale with a lodge feel. Some rooms have hot tubs but book early as these are the first to go. We had a wonderful experience here for Valentine’s Day and look forward to booking next year.
