Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa

Beautiful location but needs more than just the grill/bar available for meals. The second, nicer restaurant, Entrada, is now only available for events. We’ve been coming here for years and really miss a second restaurant. Eating at the same restaurant 2-3 times a day gets old quickly. Everyone who works here is very pleasant and the casita we stayed in was very nice and quiet. We saw deer everyday roaming the grounds.

Wanted to love this place. The rooms, grounds, and facilities were BEAUTIFUL, but everything else was just bad. Our Casita room was advertised as having a view of the palisades... it had no view. The staff all seemed to be totally checked out. Lots of weird little service misses. For example, there's a self serve water jug at the pool, and they didn't put any ice in it on 100 degree days. Not a big deal on its own, but when you're paying $800+/night, it's the little things like this that make or break a stay. They were out of all the beers on tap except one. There were several miscommunications about which restaurants were open and when. They canceled pool bingo and donkey happy hour due to weather, when it didn't even end up raining (there are also probably three separate event spaces they could have moved bingo to inside). The auto museum and air tours no longer exist, even though there are signs all around the property for them. The food all around was baddd, and both my husband and I literally got food poisoning on our last night. Both of us threw up for 24 hours straight. Disappointing trip, to say the least.

We already want to come back! Amazing views, friendly staff and great food. Everyone we encountered was so friendly. Definitely do a sunset horse back ride you won’t regret it.

We'd wanted to visit Gateway Canyons for years and finally booked a family getaway in August. If you're considering a stay, here's an honest rundown of what to expect right now — because unfortunately, it didn't live up to the resort's reputation or the price tag. Check-in was rocky. The lobby was empty aside from portable AC units standing in for what seemed like a broken cooling system, and we waited 10–15 minutes before anyone appeared. We booked through Chase's luxury hotel program, but the resort hadn't prepared our benefits letter, and once they did, it listed benefits that they were unable to fulfill. We also learned on arrival that the car museum is permanently closed and several Adventure Center activities are no longer offered. No bellman was available to help with luggage either. Dining is limited. Kiva Cafe and Entrada restaurant were both closed our entire stay, leaving Paradox Grill as the only restaurant on property for every meal. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty, service was slow (over an hour for entrées), several menu items were unavailable, and the menu itself felt fairly uninspired for a resort at this level. The pools are the highlight — but need love. This is genuinely why we booked, and you can tell they were once spectacular. The setting still is. But furniture is worn and pool-side service was minimal — we lounged over four hours at one pool without a single check-in from Cantina staff asking if we wanted to order food or drinks. The fitness center has some nice modern equipment, though the free weights were noticeably rusty. Rooms are clean but dated, and our in-room hot tub and patio could have used more attention. Property-wide, things felt cleaned on a schedule but not properly maintained — worn walkways, shabby furniture, and general signs of deferred upkeep. Staff felt disengaged. Housekeeping repeatedly interrupted a pre-arranged late checkout — even walking in on an important work call — despite us confirming it in advance at the front desk. Bottom line: the natural setting here is still spectacular, and you can feel the "bones" of a truly special resort. But right now, the experience doesn't match the price or the legacy. We'd genuinely love to return one day and see this place restored to its former glory — we just wouldn't recommend paying peak rates for it until it gets there.

I almost hate to write this review because this is one of the best kept secrets in Colorado. This is a beautiful upscale resort in one of the most pristine locations in Western Colorado. We live about 50 miles away in Grand Junction and love coming here just to feel like we are getting away on a special day out. Had lunch today at the Paradox Grill. The staff is wonderful, friendly and attentive. Thanks to Kayla from Florida for a very nice dining experience! The gardens and landscaping are beautiful and we even had a special visit with the landscape manager who loves to share his knowledge of the beautiful plants .
