What began in 1915 with a few tents on the shores of stunning Lac Beauvert has evolved into one of Canada's most beautiful resorts. Today, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta's Jasper National Park is a breathtaking enclave of cedar chalets and heritage log cabins. Although secluded in its rugged landscape, this picturesque property tends to the desires of discriminating travelers, with an elegant spa and an array of refined dining dedicated to the bounties of the Great White North.

Let's start with the positives. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom excellent. The cons. If you have booked a room costing over £400 a night you'd expect a certain level of comfort. The room felt cramped. We have had much bigger rooms at a fraction of the price in Canada. Of course, Jasper is expensive. There was no comfortable chairs, just padded dining chairs. There was no room to put a couple of armchairs. The 'kitchen' was a tiny slide out tray housed in the wardrobe. We had a back porch to sit on with glorious views of a recently dug trench, some safety fencing and a mechanical digger. Thank goodness we were there at a weekend so we weren't woken by workmen . There is an excellent on site dining room, so we are told. It was fully booked. There is a shuttle service to take you into Jasper. Unfortunately, it finishes at 6.30pm so it's no use for going out for an evening meal. If you look at the website, the outdoor heated pool is prominent in the pictures. It was closed for refurbishment. But they offer a bus to the local swimming pool as an alternative, we didn't take them up on the offer. As an apology for all the building work going on they offered us, a couple in our mid seventies, $50 off the cost of hiring a kayak. Of course, if they're offering $50 off, the actual cost is still high. I heard one chap ask if instead of $100 for the hour, could he use his token for a half hour. No. The hotel offers lots of facilities for going on the e water, playing golf etc, but they all come at a price. If, like us, you want a base to explore to local area, then we have had much better rooms at much less cost. When we were notified of the pool closure, just before flying to Canada, I contacted our travel agent and expressed our disappointment. Strangely, our one other stay in a Fairmont hotel, the pool was closed for refurbishment ment! Our excellent agent negotiated a substantial refund from the hotel bringing the cost down to a much more reasonable rate.

Our room is very dated and has holes in the drapes. The bathroom door has several chips in the wood. We are extremely disappointed.

Arrived last night for 2 nights and the whole check in process was a shambles (at 6pm). We got off a tour bus whereby they should be aware that 33 guests were checking in but no one greeted the bus but we were forced to line up and check in. In saying that, the front office staff were very good and after 5 or so minutes, we had our keys. Our room was amazing with a lake view and could be happier. Clean, large, comfortable and a large bathroom to boot had us smiling. Dinner was superb at The Nook although service was a little slow at times but the food was superb. Wine list could also be better but we found a nice wine too. Has a great sleep but no information about breakfast was given to us and we were astonished to find out that breakfast was not included in the nightly rate and also given we were part of the Rocky Mountaineer Gold Prestige tour group that there was no executive lounge either. Such a shame. Breakfast was very average with average service staff. The property is impressive and nice to walk around and I wish I could give it 5 stars but no.

So this is a more chill Fairmont compared to others. Your hotel rooms are more like cabins in a lodge spread throughout the property. Which is cool, but you have to park your car far away from your room. Annoying. To get to the main lobby it’s a walk, which is fine. It’s a great walk, it’s right along the water. It’s beautiful. The main lobby is where the reception is, the restaurants, the bar, the planetarium, the spa, the pool, the gym, and there’s even a game room. When we first checked in, and we went to our room, our key did not work. So immediately I went in panic mode because I just went through this at another hotel where the keypad battery went out. I thought oh no, not again. I want a new room. But it just turns out there’s two door doors to the room so security had to unlock the one on the other side in order to unlock the one on our side. So no need to switch rooms thank God! And the keys worked after that. We went to the main lobby for dinner one night and the food was OK but our waitress was amazing. Then the next night we went to the steakhouse right there, and that was fabulous! We wish we had had more time to go to the planetarium. We did not realize it was right there on property. The guy checking us in was really nice and informative with everything, except that part but I did ask a lot of questions. When you get to the room, you get a bowl of fruit and some sparkling water, which was a nice touch! I noticed the other rooms that we walked by were much bigger and they had a view of the lake so if you can get one of those rooms, those look lovely. And they even had their own little deck. So cute!

September 6, 2025 This visit was extra special because we took advantage of the Maligne Lake tour and the planetarium. Absolutely a must!!! Maligne Lake tour takes you to Spirit Island, its mystical and magical destination. It’s like stepping into a painting of a beautiful paradise. I wish we had more time on the island. Captain Nat and Grace were both amazing! Grace is funny, witty, and an informative tour guide. Thank you for a memorable tour! Orso’s team:Chef Thomas, Ansh, Jason, Mark, John and April were incredible and they made our meals so special and memorable. Heartfelt thank you! The staff of the Great Hall were friendly, attentive and took great care of us. Thank you! August 17th 2025-just returned from an incredible weekend at JPL. We stayed in the recently renovated room and my oh my! What a treat it was! We had our dog with us and he is a bit over protective and sensitive. The housekeeping staff was so understanding and professional regarding our dog’s sensitivities. I forget the staff’s name but know it’s her birthday today. Wishing her a very happy birthday! Jason at Orso and April at Great Hall provided exceptional service, interesting conversations, delicious food and treats! Brandon at Great Hall makes a mean London Fog! Heartfelt thanks to Jason, April and Brandon! (Sorry if I misspelled) I would also like to thank the Spa/Pool staff for locating and safekeeping a piece of jewellery left in the pool locker. We provided a picture of the jewelry and were very happy to know it was safe with Security. Phew! A million heartfelt thank yous!!! It’s my second time at JPL. I have been in awe to experience that each and every staff member that we have met is professional, friendly and ready to help and make your stay here as pleasant and comfortable as possible. They pay attention to details and details matter to me. Not once have I heard “ I don’t know “. I can’t say enough about the JPL team of staff members. They are a group of Incredibly talented and passionate individuals. No matter if you are seeking help of a front desk staff, concierge , house keeping, shuttle staff, restaurant staff, gift shop or the gallery, each and every experience was warm, friendly and pleasant. I commend the management!!! I appreciated and was delighted about the picnic baskets and fitness classes. Guests can order picnic baskets and their monthly fitness schedule offering yoga, Pilates and AquaFitness classes. I also participated in a photography workshop there, it was organized by the hotel. And the spa experience was incredibly relaxing. It was a fantastic!! Heartfelt thanks for an exceptional experience!
