Jasper’s Crown Jewel For Relaxation & Appreciation of the Area’s Beauty

Upon arrival at Jasper Park Lodge, we were immediately at ease and relaxed after our stunning drive from Calgary on the Icefields Parkway. The sprawling resort acreage pays homage to the history and conservation of the beautiful surrounding landscape. Our lakefront cabin was a true oasis with a spacious layout and everything we needed. An easy walk to the main lodge, we enjoyed strolling the premises and exploring all the activities available. From golf, to kayaking, games, hiking, and many dining options, you never have to leave! Only regret is we couldn’t stay longer! Would return in a heartbeat!

Stunning views and location

A beautiful location with stunning views. Our room was clean and comfortable however I would expect there to be bottled water in the room. Tea and coffee making facilities were present. A well maintained property and enjoyed the wildlife. The staff were mixed , some excellent and friendly and some very poor and unhelpful. Only 2 restaurants and one closed on the night we wanted to eat in the hotel! The menu was very limited and the service and food were poor. Although we enjoyed the area very much we did have better expectations for this hotel .

Not particularly restful.

Noisy like a suburban street; don’t be fooled by the “cabin in the woods “ appearance; there is road noise; truck noise; circular saws; delivery van doors slamming; large delivery truck collecting up all the tour groups luggage; cars; golf carts; Rumbling pickup trucks. Bobcats; hotel passenger vans; All before 8 am. The moments of peace are constantly punctuated by urban noise. The room smelled of a chemical like fresh paint. There is no air filter. The bathroom and in-room bar are fully updated. The bedding is comfortable. A few elements of the cabin are still dated. That isn’t really a problem. At the main building, Terrace seating is very limited to just a few tables, So don’t plan on sit outside and enjoy the evening with a drink unless you bring your own and sit at your room.

Worth the experience

We enjoyed our stay at JPL overall despite the effects from the 2024 fire and no air conditioning in the rooms (fans did help and I hear they are working on upgrades which will be nice). The hikes are very nice around and highly recommend the water rafting trip. A memorable moment during our stay was dinner at the Orso dining room. Our server Kiran (everyone was pronouncing it Karen) deserves a special shout out. He took such great care of us and provided wonderful recommendations for food and drinks. It was nice to see him on another day and he still remembered our names which was a nice touch. He definitely is a great asset to the JPL hospitality team. We already miss our time in the Banff/Jasper region of Canada!

Canada’s best kept secret

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

From Vancouver to Calgary with multiple stays in between, our stay at FJP was by far the best. This lodge is stunning. It is like a small village with cottages and suites so strategically placed. The staff were the most friendly and accommodating. The front desk and information stations were so helpful. The rooms are so clean and the beds are the most comfortable. Drinks on the patio with a spectacular lake view with vast mountains in the back. I don’t know where to start with the food. It was fantastic and most enjoyable. We ate in the more casual restaurant, I think it was called the Great Hall. We rode bikes and were so pleased with the paved road and even the small dirt path that we started our journey on. We tried to go horse back riding. We paid and got a taxi to take us to the stable. As we were about to pull in the stables called us and canceled our ride. They reported a “glitch” in their system, whatever that meant. Our money was refunded but not for the taxi. This is no fault of Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge as this stable is off of their property and out of their control. Instead we went to the charming town of Jasper. What a hidden gem all of Jasper is. So much better than Banff. I want to return to FJP and have already looked into room prices and flights. I fell hard for Jasper and the FJP Lodge. In my opinion their reviews should be a perfect 5 star.
