We've done quite a few picnics along the years, and I must say that this one is in the Top 3. I was impressed by the organisation. You come to the tented area, they give you the blanket and backrest and let you chose your spot. Once settled down, they come place your drink order, and bring you your picnic baskets. We ordered a standard one and a vegetarian one. everything was explained and all the food restrictions were taken into account. Well done! The food variety was large, and the quantity as well. Very good quality products. We sat in front of the carousel to enjoy the band. It was not really my style of music (I prefer acoustic), but it was enjoyable. Top notch service. The price is a bit expensive, but you pay for the quality. To be done on a special occasion. The low part was the portable toilets. I found it a bit inappropriate for such a high standard place.

First the Pros: The estate is stunning and the deli is a foodies dream. We had a gorgeous 4 bedroom cottage with the most incredible view. We did a wine tasting with Mercia and honestly I learned more about wine in that half hour than I have in my life. She talked about how certain wines transport you to places and memories. Absolutely request her. She’s fantastic. The cleaning staff too was excellent. Special shout out to: Kelly Luskam Muriel Belinda Theresa Daylene Andre Lyle The Cons: It was a busy Sunday but the front desk had over 4 hours to bring our luggage to our cottage and we ended up having to bring in everything ourselves. Not the end of the world but certainly not what you’d expect at these prices. There was also no one to show us around our cottage. Luckily our friends had been before but we didn’t know how to use the tv or the oven. On a scorching hot day there was no drinking water at the pool. Even just a mini fridge with bottles would have been so appreciated. Finally the quick restaurant was absolutely awful. We had 5 kids and they wouldn’t even eat the pizza which was like something you’d get at a hospital cafeteria. If you talk to people who stayed at Boschendal before they talk about incredible service: someone shows you around the room; there are toys and gifts waiting for Children and for guests. At all the other hotels we stayed at someone showed us around our room, very methodically and carefully. At this price point it is certainly the standard.

We had the most delicious and perfectly cooked Kingclip fish for lunch which was so full of flavors and could not be criticized in any way and we were waited on by Isabel superbly!

Waste of precious time, money aside. Everything at the Arum dining experience was bad. This is not an all out hunt but we all have so little time to waste and after days and almost weeks of hard working we treated ourselves to an evening of fine dining which was a flop from the start! Lack of attendance, detail and the mediocre food quality had us all wondering why we didn’t just eat at Tuk Tuk in Franshoek. Arum is a sheep in wolf’s clothing and fell flat on all the basic things that make a dinner experience exceptional. Rule number one, the guests shouldn’t be training your staff. Rule number two, your guests shouldn’t be left high and dry for very long periods of time and finally rule number three, if you make a mistake, own up to it, apologize and try to rectify as soon as possible because once again your guests time is precious! NEVER AGAIN - DM me for tips on tonnes of better places to eat:) there are many in the area

Absolutely stunning settings and well with a visit. The tasting area is lovely and shaded under trees with views of the lawns. The cheese platter was a disappointment with cheese portions the size of a sugar cube.
