Wonderful visit to the Boschendal wine estate

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed in the 1685 cottage for 2 nights as part of our garden route tour. If you can get this place, don’t hesitate. It was magical. We are a family of five all of adult age. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing them we drove up. We had the nicest guy Maxwell as our full time Butler. There words not ours. He was absolute amazing. Each morning we had breakfast in the cottage waiting for us. Our only regret is coming in the SA winter as we couldn’t enjoy the pool but we will be back. Such a fantastic experience and I couldn’t recommend any higher. Also the rest of the estate is wonderful. The checking in and out was seamless. Farm shop wonderful and restaurants and wine tasting delightful. Full thumbs up

Money grubbing operation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Highly commercialized operation with big tour groups. All they want is to take your money. The wines were not very good but pricey. When we paid just for a tasting they tried to overcharge us! Someone told us we could have a wine skin but at the door they demanded yet more money. I wouldn’t waste a wine tasting opportunity on this wine tram stop. Very disappointing

Enjoyable experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

We stayed in Boschendal for 3 nights while exploring the wider region. We stayed in one of the Orchard cottages and the facilities were excellent. Only minor point was that there was only one safe in the cottage but it wasn’t fixed to anything, it was just sat in the cupboard. Views from the cottage were fantastic and we took advantage of having a braai on two of the evenings, having shopped in the farm shop on the farm. We enjoyed the facilities on the farm and ate in the Deli, did some wine tasting and had breakfast each morning. Breakfast was excellent, with a good choice. Service was as expected. Would recommend Boschendal as a good location to stay.

Not worth your time! If you’re on the wine tram, don’t bother with this place!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

My partner and I visited this place whilst traveling on the wine tram. It was recommend on trip adviser as a great place to attend. The food and wine was delicious but unfortunately the service let this place down. We went for the wine and chocolate pairing … the wine came before the chocolate and the woman left before she could even explain what chocolate should be paired with what wine. By the time she came over, the chocolate melted. She was so uninterested and it made the experience so boring. There are SOOOOO many better wine farms than this and I can only recommend spending more time there for a ‘cheaper’ experience, than this overpriced farm.
