Reviews for Mountain Lodge at Telluride

All was great except - well the room 👎

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Stayed here before and it was great BUT our last stay in room 4215 the middle of July was poor. Clogged sink in bathroom, leaking bath faucet, broken light fixtures and a loft at 80 degrees were just some of the issues with this run down room. That said, the location, amenities and staff are great and we loved that part but the room…

A DISASTROUS WEEKEND

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

WHAT A DISASTER ! Shame on you Sam (Owner) who it seems will do anything for a few dollars. We arrived last weekend, (August 22nd) to check out our wedding venues with our daughter and her fiancé. We are having a Telluride wedding next Sept. We received not one but three separate texts a few days before our arrival stating that each day we were staying 22-25, there would be major restrictions on the use of the property. The pool was going to be off limits Friday, the restaurant on Saturday, and the pool once again on Sunday. We realize that often a weddings closes the restaurant early and that is to be expected. We arrived to valet park our car on Friday to a group of scantily clad and bizarrely so group of 20-30 something’s smoking out of glass pipes directly in front of the valet station. Evidently, as we learned later, there was a last minute (4 months prior) addition of an EDM festival to the Telluride calendar. This “luxury” hotel took it upon themselves to offer up their pool to anyone participating in the festival (sold out at 10,000 ) and whether you were staying at the hotel or not, to use the pool “ Pool Party” on both Friday and Sunday. The majority of the EDM festival goers were camping (5000) at 2 separate sites, and then coming to use the pool and hot tub obviously not showering before, and in the most inappropriate clothing. On Friday there were people in and out of the pool, throwing trash around etc. By the time the “pool party” was finished (supposedly at 3, but around 4, it looked like a frat house party gone off. What were you thinking? We flew in from Boston to enjoy the beautiful weekend and I will say it was such a disaster that the cabins I was going to book for our wedding next Sept and the rehearsal dinner which is already booked there, may be changed . The staff was overwhelmed with complaints, to the point that all they could do was gaslight us, the paying customers, with “these are all our guests” and “we’ve seen worse weddings” the negative energy was palpable . We met some Boston College kids at the airport who were staying at the Mountain Lodge also, and they said “NEVER AGAIN’” the bride and groom of their wedding were so upset. Meanwhile, our friends were staying at the Peaks, and yes while they had rooms available for concert goers, they didn’t pimp out their property. As a matter of fact we were there during the weekend using their facilities and all was very serene. I hope the extra dollars were worth it, the long term repercussions may not be.

Overpriced resort with not a lot of focus on cleanliness or resort life

We recently stayed here end of July to first week of August. The valet is annoying considering they park your car where you can see it in the tiny parking lot or in the parking garage at the market (overflow parking). We rarely used the valet, but when we did they were very slow to get our car or they showed up at 5:30am instead of 6:30am on the day of our departure. The floors in our room were so dirty (almost black on the bottom) that I had to soak my kids’ socks for two days and scrub them to get the dirt out. The mattresses were cheap and the primary suite had a mattress, where I basically rolled into the middle of the mattress every night. The kitchen is pretty barebones. No baking sheet, no Tupperware, no spatula, no measuring spoons, so plan accordingly. The refrigerator froze most of our fruit and did not have a water dispenser on it. No ice either, you have to get that from that machine on the floor. The tap water was ok, but did taste a little off. The shared living spaces (kitchen/living room) had no screens on doors or windows (no ac), so our son sleeping on the pullout had multiple fans going. The kitchen table and chairs were so squeaky, every time you got up or barely leaned on them. There is a resort fee of $45 a day for a small pool, hot tub, tiniest gym (maybe two people can work out in here) and a couple hammocks. I’ve seen more amenities at a small town Holiday Inn. When we contacted the concierge about fly fishing and white water rafting, she basically just told us to call some local places for availability. The gators that they drive around the property at all hours of the day are loud and since you have to keep your windows open for air, you hear them. They have very little space on the actual property for the dogs to walk. The pros-it’s very close to the market, free gondola, close to the breakfast taco and coffee place near the market, close to mountain village where they have more restaurants, near some walking trails, the restaurant on property is pretty good (overpriced for dinner, small menu). The view is beautiful and the golf course is close if you are a golfer.

Great facility and extra amenities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Great lodge. The valet service and shuttle is great when traveling with toddlers. The pool and other amenities are great. The gondola is free and a quick walk. There is a little market that seems to have everything you might need. If you rent a condo through Airbnb just be sure to read the reviews. Our experience was good. Having read the reviews, we knew some of the feedback ahead of time. So we were prepared with bringing what we would need yo have a perfect stay.

Not a great experience.

Not a great experience. Last minute booking for us as we decided to stay in Telluride instead of Ouray. Booked directly through their website. Website clearly states no hidden fees, and the sign out front and website says $39 valet AVAILABLE but this is MANDATORY. Not a dealbreaker, but I mentioned to them their website did not explain this. Website also states easy cancellation, but email after booking said absolutely no cancellations, but this may have been due to me booking same-day. I booked this location specially because it had an onsite restaurant and pool, which we learned were closed as soon as we arrived due to a wedding (again, not mentioned on website). Had to walk down the hill to our building with our luggage. Valet kid said “oh you have a great view of the mountains down there”. First floor view of mountain was nearly completely blocked by trees. There is no AC! I don’t believe this was listed on their website either. No screen on balcony doors, so could not keep those open overnight. The “tiny rooms” do not have king size beds so we were forced to book a king size suite, which we never would’ve done for one night. Rooms need upgrades (peeling paint). No body wash in room, just a tiny hand soap. Got out the iron to press a pair of white/red pants to go to dinner. The last person who used it obviously burned something on it and it wasn’t cleaned, so it ruined my pants. Management seemingly reluctantly gave us a discount, but didn’t really bother to apologize for the inconvenience. Should’ve booked elsewhere or an AirBnb…the cost would’ve been the same.
