In 2013, media mogul Ted Turner purchased Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa near Turtleback Mountain in New Mexico. Why? The area’s geothermal Hot Springs, frequented by Native Americans like Geronimo, have been the cornerstone of this Old West retreat for nearly 90 years. The lodge’s rooms & suites feature rustic wood furnishings and Native American décor, and the spacious two-bedroom Casita provides comfort, privacy and panoramic views of the mountainous landscape. Chef Miyazaki focuses on the American Southwest, with menu items such as Black Truffle Steak and Maple Leaf Cherry Port Duck. The Spa at Sierra Grande utilizes the natural geothermal spring underneath the lodge to create private pools and soothing baths in the mineral-rich water.

We've stayed a couple times and were very pleased. This time, not so much. The staff were all very friendly and helpful but, I need my hot coffee in the morning and the air-pots just do not keep the coffee hot. Also, our room included breakfast so we went in to get a bite. The buffet was very underwhelming considering the cost of our stay. Again, the staff were very nice and accommodating but.... the coffee was lukewarm, the fruit had no flavor, there were no eggs or bacon. They refilled both as quickly as they could but other than english muffins and some grocery store muffins and pastry, that's all there was. We were just disappointed and probably would not stay here again.

It is incredibly important to get in touch with our environment- and Sierra Grande allows for that, particularly the Ted Turner Reserves. The check in process was easy, staff is very accommodating and it is a great value

The hotel is from the 1920's and has been pretty well taken care of. The rooms though not completely updated with new tiles in the tub area, are nice with firm mattresses, fluffy pillows, nice furnishings, and special touches like a soft Navajo style blanket to cuddle with and a fresh carafe of water. The hotel features natural hot spring water, and you receive a 30-minute soak on each day of your stay in their spa area. That was wonderful and left our skin silky smooth! Breakfast is provided and offered the usual fair. The staff here is very friendly and helpful! The only thing I wish they had done to the place is add a more updated and useable serene outdoor area. I would stay here again and enjoy more of their spa offerings and an excursion to one of the other Ted Turner properties.

We had a wonderful experience at Sierra Grande as a stopover during a road trip. Wish we could have stayed an extra night. The spa soaks were great and atmosphere was very quiet. The staff was pleasant and all the facilities and rooms spotlessly clean. We left feeling very relaxed.
