Reviews for The Charleston Place

Gorgeous hotel with superior staff & service.

The Charleston Place was one of the most impressive overall luxury hotels I have stayed at ever. The beauty of the property, services, shopping nearby is undeniable. The staff, however, are more skilled than other luxury hotel chains. Every staff member (and I mean 100%) was friendly, helpful, responsive & knowledgeable. Some that I found particularly helpful were Allesandro, Eric, Margo, and Shruti. I could name many more, but didn't write all their names down. Location is absolutely ideal. Across the street from a nice market, easy access to the carriage rides, shopping and oodles of fine restaurants. Rooms were gorgeous. But, right now, lots of construction going on inside as well as near the garage and front entrance. Some hotel rooms are also under construction. My only advice right now is to ask to have a room not near any construction of other hotel rooms. Plan accordingly, construction all around; garage area, entrance, etc. It's tricky to drive there and park (unless your plan to use valet). Once you figure it out, it's fine. But, give yourself some time.

Must stay in Charleston

This hotel goes all out to make your stay memorable and relaxing. A must stay during the holidays, walkable to everything including their own gardens with a tree and carousel. The “snow” als was an awesome touch.

Look away

Dated hotel, absolutely overpriced, terrible check in and check out. If this is considered the living room of Charleston well that is not a good looking, cozy living room at all. Totally soul-less and truly not original and doesn’t speak about the culture or history of the city. Also, surprise - valet not included.

Unhappy at Charleston Place

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We had a great check in with Anna yesterday and secured a room on the 8th floor but from there it has been down hill. We put our name on the list for the Thoroughbred bar to listen to the entertainment 🎶 and eat dinner. We decided to get a drink and appetizer 🍸 at the bar next to the Thoroughbred bar and it was a train wreck from there. We were some of the only people in the bar and ordered drinks that were put in wrong and deliver over 15 minutes later and our food order was never put in and 45 minutes asked where the food was and the server said she would check but never put the Oysters order in. Unfortunately, the Oysters were fair at best delivered over an hour later and it took us another 20 minutes to get our check which caused us to be late for our Thoroughbred reservation. Very very poor service and no accountability or apology. Anyway, the delay caused us to be late for our Thoroughbred table and once we checked in and we're told our table was given away and there would be a 45 minute wait. At this point we were hungry and agitated and decided to go to the Sports Bar in the Charleston Place and ordered wings and crab dip. The wings were dry, over cooked and the bar tenders seemed upset and must have had an argument because there was tension in the air and the service represented that mood. Our experience for our Anniversary is not good so far and we are considering looking into other hotel options. 😕😕

Early morning construction work & lack of consideration

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

My family and I were initially disappointed at check in when we learned that the pool was closed for renovation. We found that info about the pool closure was discoverable on the website in fine print if you knew where to look, but it certainly wasn't findable on expedia, where we booked our stay. If we knew about the closure, we very likely would have booked elsewhere. Our main issue was that construction work began at 7:30 AM each morning of our stay. We asked for work not to begin until 9:00, but that didn't happen. I'm sure that the Charleston Place will look great when it's completed, but some more consideration for guests visiting through the construction would have been appreciated.

I traveled with my family (husband, and two children ages 2 and 4) on a Luxury Link auction package to Charleston Place in August. True good service is making travel effortless for the visitor, and Charleston Place delivered. There was no problem in bringing our children. We arrived about an hour before official check-in, but our room was ready and keys were given. Concierge had pre-printed directions to many of the sites. Finally, our Luxury Link credits for spa and dinner was automatically applied at check-out, so the check-out sheet that I received the morning of departure already had the correct amount that needed to be charged. Effortless! The Club floor included an expanded continental buffet breakfast, as well as drinks and finger foods throughout most of the day. This was very convenient and the breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres were particularly extensive. What makes Charleston Place stand out from myriad other places to stay in Charleston - many more historic or quaint or intimate - is the amenities offered. The pool with surrounding deck and kiddie pool is a very pleasant spot. The spa treatments were wonderful and very professional. Dinner at Charleston Grill was our favorite meal of the trip. The flavors were complex and fresh - this is not your typical fried and heavy Southern cuisine. I can see Charleston Place appealing to business travelers, couples needing pampering, families with older children, and yes, families with young children. All in all, a service-oriented hotel in a wonderful location with superior amenities and appealing to many different types of travelers.
