Valet was a major pain point during our stay and I felt bad for the valet guys. There were a lot rude guests that ended up taking precedence over my family when it came to the valet stuff and all we got were apologies. When we are told to wait and wait and it takes about 30 minutes or more for a valet guy to get our car, but then other guests get out of their cars and leave them unattended while we are following the rules and procedures is not the best look. Especially when these guests are being extremely rude, but my family just sat in our car and watched our mpg drop from 25 to 17 says a lot for how long we were in idle for and the one night my family needed to get to a reservation which they were 10 minutes late for which was fine thankfully. Check out and check in usually takes a while whenever we stay which is somewhat frustrating but I just stay patient and feel bad for the front desk people because again there are rude guests. Pool not being opened is disappointing since this has been our 2nd time staying this year and last year the pool was closed when we stayed in December. We have made this somewhat of a tradition over the last few years. Hearing the spa is going away for the next couple or few years is disappointing too since my daughter and I use the spa as a tradition too. I feel bad for the people who work at the hotel at the end of the day because it is not their fault the renovations are taking longer than anticipated and all of the employees seem to be working extremely hard. I love this hotel ever since my family started going to it in the early 90s so there is definitely sentimental value. The hotel has a lot going for it but this past visit my family and I were just disappointed in the pool not being finished, hearing the spa is going away, and valet.

This was our family staycation for the second year in a row. The Christmas decor and event offerings were wonderful and the food at the Club Level was delicious. We also had a very friendy bellman and overall ths staff was kind and accomodating. However, we were very disappointed with that the check-in was over an hour late (and for a one night stay this was a lot of time and didn't give us much time to change for our evening activities) and valet service to leave took an hour for the car to come around.

I've been to quite a few five-star hotels all over the world, and service at The Charleston Place is in the top five. The equivalent of the old Savoy Hotel in London and the old Adlon Hotel in Berlin. From the housekeepers and room service waiters on up, each and every one was a professional at the top of their game. Example: when I asked the travel desk about the difficulty of getting an Uber back at the end of the day, he assured me -- correctly -- that there would be no problem, but seeing that I was still concerned, he handed me a card and said "If something happens and you get stuck I'll have a hotel black car out there in 30 minutes." The renovated rooms are among the most graceful I can remember, with just the right amount of open space and just the right amount of design & decoration. And we had plenty of room to spread out. There are two things that need improvement. The food service carts do not have hot-food compartments, and my breakfast arrived nearly cold every day, not the waiters fault at all. Second, the one day we went to breakfast downstairs, it took 45 minutes to get us food. The exquisite Bernardaud teapot did not keep the tea warm for more than a few minutes -- give me a thermos-style stainless steel one anytime.

Christmas at The Charleston Place is very special. The decorations and special Christmas events like Mr & Mrs Claus and carolers were especially enjoyable. We plan to return next year and stay longer to enjoy everything.

The Charleston Place Hotel has been our December destination for the past 20 consecutive years celebrating our anniversary. It is a luxurious, comfortable and special place. We book on the Club Level and enjoy the offerings and treats with little need to ever leave the hotel! Of course, it’s walking distance from many fun and exciting shopping, dining and cultural venues that we enjoy. The ample rooms are clean, well appointed, have comfortable beds, linens and furniture with lovely style and decorative accents. The staff were all above and beyond, taking care of our every need. We stayed during the hotel’s reimagining phase, and were aware of many restrictive conditions before booking this season. So to be fair, they did a good job accommodating all the construction happening while still maintaining their signature opulence and quality. With one exception regarding the room temperature to cold food served in Club Level. We dearly missed the pool, sauna and spa as well as the spacious Club dining areas but are comforted knowing they will all return when the work is completed!

I traveled with my family (husband, and two children ages 2 and 4) on a Luxury Link auction package to Charleston Place in August. True good service is making travel effortless for the visitor, and Charleston Place delivered. There was no problem in bringing our children. We arrived about an hour before official check-in, but our room was ready and keys were given. Concierge had pre-printed directions to many of the sites. Finally, our Luxury Link credits for spa and dinner was automatically applied at check-out, so the check-out sheet that I received the morning of departure already had the correct amount that needed to be charged. Effortless! The Club floor included an expanded continental buffet breakfast, as well as drinks and finger foods throughout most of the day. This was very convenient and the breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres were particularly extensive. What makes Charleston Place stand out from myriad other places to stay in Charleston - many more historic or quaint or intimate - is the amenities offered. The pool with surrounding deck and kiddie pool is a very pleasant spot. The spa treatments were wonderful and very professional. Dinner at Charleston Grill was our favorite meal of the trip. The flavors were complex and fresh - this is not your typical fried and heavy Southern cuisine. I can see Charleston Place appealing to business travelers, couples needing pampering, families with older children, and yes, families with young children. All in all, a service-oriented hotel in a wonderful location with superior amenities and appealing to many different types of travelers.
