It’s afterhours, you’re sipping a cocktail, and a Roman mosaic from the second century is begging closer study – Claris Hotel makes a museum experience available 24 hours a day, thanks to an expansive art collection that ranges from Victorian furniture to Turkish kilims to etchings by modern Catalan painter Josep Guinovart. The ground floor museum showcases pieces from Jordi Clos Archaeological Foundation’s private collection, while Napoleon leaves his mark with several drawings he commissioned. Another way this hotel channels a museum: Peace and quiet pervades the hallways, which guarantees a good night’s sleep.

The hotel is stunning....like visiting a museum overnight. The staff was all very nice as well, the little interaction I had with them. The location was excellent, too. A bit off the beaten path but not too far off. Why the three stars? The room. It was as small a room as I have ever seen. There was no place for a suitcase. The bathroom had no area where I could unpack my dopp kit, etc etc. It was a real challenge! I never make a big deal about my Hilton Diamond status. If I get an upgrade, that is nice but I never ask for one. But, I also do not expect to be placed in the smallest room in the hotel either.

What a disappointment. The hotels 3 elevators worked the first day of a 5 night stay. I understand elevator maintenance happens. But with one elevator down, management decided to paint a 2nd elevator. I’m a 70 old with 2 knee replacements, not ideal. My daughter wanted to use the roof top pool. 1st day all good. After pool maintenance lounge chairs were taken away. My daughter wanted to use the pool while I napped, management offered a sister company pool “a block away” The other meant the unattractive not their own roof top pool. I measured it, .24 miles, must be a long block. Does this seem like a 5 star hotel? They certainly charged 5 star rates. I would check out the competition

The setting of this air conditioned rooftop restaurant adorned with a monstera bio-wall was relaxing and a short walk from the high end boutiques of the Passeig de Gracia. Mario expertly guided us to the right amount of food because we wanted everything on the menu. The premium anchovies were delicate and delicious. The oysters and ceviche had a nice kick. The chef prepared the pan seared turbot and the clay baked hake with thyme and truffles perfectly. Our relaxing, luxuriating lunch experience in Barcelona ended with homemade cheese cake with a soft center, like the Basque, but with an apple and cider sorbet and espresso. A perfect afternoon treat.

The team that works here are 10 stars! From the moment you are greeted at the door to the front desk to the concierge and housekeeping team, they are what makes this stay worthwhile. Location is wonderful. However this is not a 5 star hotel and I question it's SLH association having stayed at many in the past. Elevators do not always work. One was out of service the entire time. Another time came in from the heat and all 3 were out of service. There is an odd odor in the rooms. The breakfast room has its own musty smell and is very dark. The breakfast offering is not commiserate with a 5 star hotel. Lacking in variety. And perhaps this is an odd petty note, for a 5 star hotel I would expect a seperate shower and conditioner not an all in one. Cheers for the flat iron. Our hunt for our Barcelona home away from home continues.

Bad would not recommend. The rooms were small and and only had 1 plug outlet in it and when we complained and asked to move hotels, they offered to move us to a better room free of charge ( and the upgraded rooms were also bad quality but at that point the hotel was fighting for us to stay so we just stayed) only to find out that when we were leaving they want us to pay for the upgrade even though they said from their own mouths that the upgraded room was free of charge. Basically robbery because if that was the case from the beginning then we would’ve went to a better hotel that actually was 5 star quality and we were supposed to catch a flight and they made us very late for it. They even tried to call the cops on us for their mistake. My family and I travel a lot and this is the only hotel we’ve ever complained about. It was so bad it basically ruined our Spain experience.

We had a wonderful 5 nights at the Hotel Claris in Barcelona and enjoyed every minute of it...The staff went out of their way to tend to our every need. The service they showed far surpassed the service I have experienced at many five-star hotels. I would highly recommend this hotel!
