Reviews for Hotel El Convento

Gorgeous property but the service was uneven

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 12 hours ago

This historic hotel is absolutely beautiful and well located with many amenities such as the 5 p.m. wine and cheese reception. We had room 419; it seemed sort of small but very well remodeled since the building used to be a convent. The employees seemed unmotivated such that I wondered if a contract negotiation was going on. The instruction manual said that if you wanted maid service to put out the door hanger which said "Privacy Please" on the other side. Unfortunately, it said "Privacy Please" on both sides so when we went out in the first morning we did not put it out. When we got back hot and tired our room had not been serviced yet. I discussed this at the front desk but there was not much we could do (and they were unaware of the door hanger) so we declined service that day. When we went to the bar to get our welcome mojitos they said that they could not make mojitos that day because they did not have mint. I thought "well send someone three blocks to the SuperMax to buy it!!!" We ended up having mojitos without mint instead. For two mornings of our four night stay employees walked up and down the stairs talking loudly at 7:15 a.m. apparently carrying equipment and woke us up. Not the greatest experience for a restful vacation.

Hotel El Convento: serene, relaxing, delightful

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 19 hours ago

Hotel El Convento has a serene and special vibe. The spiritual history, along with the beautiful architecture makes this a wonderful, relaxing place to stay. The rooftop pool offers peaceful, sunset views of the bay. The evening wine/cheese reception was delightful. Also, the new restaurant menu is delicious! Thank you to Ian, Luis, George, Gabriela + Coralys.

Great food and the best Service. Thank you Julianna.

We had the best Mofongo and an outstanding waitress Julianna who made sure we had we could have our food gluten and dairy free. Additionally, she seems like the happiest person we’ve met. She made our day.

Loved El Convento and Old San Juan

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My wife and I spent five wonderful nights at El Convento. Great coffee every morning served by the third floor terrace. Wine and cheese every evening. And a wonderful bonus of bottled water in your room and on the terrace. The staff were friendly and gracious. Beautiful room. The location was perfect. Our day trip trip to Isla Verde Beach, perfect. Old San Juan was amazing. Loved it. Suggest strongly a walking tour. So much history. Tour the fort closest to the hotel. There is no need to do the fort further away. Unless you truly enjoy touring distilleries, you can skip Baccardi. I would recommend Kaffee House for breakfast/ brunch. Carli's was an outstanding dinner.$$$ And Baris near the hotel was great. La Factoria was a great dive cocktail bar. Best Old Fashioned ever. Loved El Convento and Old San Juan... You will also.
