Loews Ventana Canyon Resort

What a gem! We generally stay at Starr Pass (still 5 star) but fortuitously for us ( that means lucky 😉 ) they were full. The main differences? The food is amazing from the Bill’s Grill by the pool to Flying V steakhouse. Never a failure. (The price of a NY Strip the size and shape of a 4 oz filet is a bit extreme but I digress). The PEOPLE. Wow. We’ve stayed at JW several times and I couldn’t tell you the name of one person. After a couple of days at Loews, we were cared for by Jacob and Nate at valet check in, Valentina taking care of our room, Les (Lads?) at the pool, and we will never forget Ken, food and beverage manager. His service went above and beyond and it’s obvious Loews is important to him. We honestly would not have had a successful stay without him. I thought he was the resort manager he cared so deeply. The rooms are huge, the bedding so cozy, the views incredible and my husband would tell you the golf was on par with more popular courses. AND you have your own waterfall! CHOOSE LOEWS.

This has been the worst hotel I have ever been in. I had specifically asked for a room near the lobby because of mobility issues and because of a conference here Inwas “upgraded” to a room in south east Asia. It is actually funny how this room is situated. You hike the length of the hotel than take an elevator that only goes to the second floor, hike the length of the second floor to an elevator to the lobby. The room was renovated by a Home Depot handyman with LED lights everywhere but each has a secret switch. We actually had to call the desk to ask how to turn each off. The food is mediocre at best. The pool is not heated and cold. The best meal we had was room service. It actually arrived promptly and hot. So cudos to the kitchen! Internet is the worst of any hotel I have ever been to. It makes its bucks on conferences and conventions but has no internet? I hate this hotel with a passion

We love resorts and we stay at resorts whenever we can. Ventana Canyon used to be a top pick for us. But we are currently checked in at Ventana Canyon Resort and we are sad to report that after nearly 40 years, this will be our final stay at Loews Ventana Canyon. We cannot remember ever feeling this unwelcome at any hotel anywhere. The property is showing its age and is due for some freshening up. You can see it in the details everywhere. But the disappointment comes with the poor service. Wait...that's not true. It was not poor service. It's that service was wholly lacking. We tried to turn in at about midnight last night (Saturday) after spending the evening with family, but when we crawled into bed, the sheets and bedding were wet. It wasn't like a spilled drink. It was more like the linens were dried only momentarily after laundering. All the bedding was consistently wet, even the tucked in sheet edges. The front desk moved us to the room next door. But when we crawled into bed, we found that those bed linens were only slightly less wet than the ones in our original room. We went back to our previous room and ordered fresh, dry bed linens. A guy showed up 20 minutes later with a duvet cover that did us no good at all. After another 20 minutes there was a knock on the door. We were handed fresh linens, but after unfolding, we saw that it was another duvet cover. This time my wife went down to the front desk and pleaded for clean, dry linens. After another 15 minutes, a guy showed up with one sheet and two pillow cases. We sent him out to get us one more sheet, two more pillow cases, and a dry bedspread. The final pieces showed up at about 1:40. So, it was close to 2am and we were changing bed linens for ourselves at a luxury resort. Not only that, but we were actually training the overnight staff on some basic hotel housekeeping dynamics. Yes, I spent a good number of years working in hotels and hospitality. UPDATE: We're now in our third room in 24 hours. They put us in a different area of the west wing. The bed linens are not wet, so we're pleased with that. We were granted a one-hundred-dollar resort credit, but that simply does not begin to address the inconvenience, frustration, and lack of sleep the past 24 hours. In fact, a hundred bucks is a bit of an insult. after what we endured last night. Thirty-eight years ago, a classmate and I had our first date at Loews Ventana Canyon. This weekend we're celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary, but it's now pretty much ruined. I wonder if we should just shlep on over to La Paloma Resort and see if we can salvage something out of this weekend. The Flying V restaurant on the property used to be a real treat back in the day. But we canceled our reservations for this evening. We shudder to imagine how a full meal would turn out, given that dry bed linens are a challenge for Ventana Canyon Resort. I don't want to stay another night. I just want to go home. Looking forward to the boiler plate response. UPDATE: 11pm Sunday. We didn't want to risk another sleepless night in a hotel in which we didn't feel welcome, so we bagged it, drank a coffee, and drove home. First thing I did when I arrived home was check the bed. Our sheets are cool and dry. Yes, DRY!

The Flying V delivered a standout dining experience. From the first bite to the last, every dish was delicious, and those mushrooms were unforgettable. Tina was a total star — attentive, warm, and genuinely delightful. Sitting lakeside made the whole evening feel serene and a little magical. Highly recommend.

This was probably my 12th (ish) stay and none have been better than any other because all have been absolutely perfect. The property is tranquil, amenities/room spacious and comforting and staff beyond helpful. Josh in the main pool is a true stand out and an employee who works so hard, is engaging, friendly and was the one thing that I will walk away with in this latest perfect stay that I will remember. Please please please. Tell him thanks for all of us. The resort itself (if not familiar with Tucson) is a 20 minute drive to the heart of the action, but with a car (highly suggested as there is so much beauty to see), everything is within reach. And if you are a nature lover, there is a moderate to difficult 5 mile hike within walking distance of the property (Ventana Trail).
