Avoid Afternoon Tea at ALL COSTS

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Our experience at The Ritz for afternoon tea was extremely disappointing, putting it politely. Unfortunately we can never visit again due to the service we received here. Our bill came to £1,000.00 which is a lot of money for some people, including us - however I am sure it makes zero difference to their daily turn over and we are unfortunately just a number who were rushed in and out of the experience. We intended to celebrate a huge milestone in our family, choosing the ritz over other fancy London hotels. I can confidently say I will never step foot in that hotel again. I much prefer the experience at Claridges and even the Dorchester. We were practically ignored from the moment we sat down, we were given quite a bit of sass upon ordering from one of our servers. The food was very very average. The main issue of ours was the rushing of us off of our table - we completely understand them needing the table back but it was beyond rude the way we were treated. We were told we had to leave so we agreed and requested the bill and card machine. We waited for the card machine for a good 15 minutes and was told by this member of staff that we need to urgently leave and gestured like get out basically. I replied excuse me but we have been waiting for you otherwise we would have left by now. They did not make you feel special and I actually felt like we were a burden to them the whole time we were there. It was beyond average, I’ve had better afternoon teas in local cafes. It made me feel physically sick paying £1,000 for it. I would have paid double if the day was beautiful and relaxing as we had hoped but just wanted to warn everyone that it’s not worth it and the name is all they really have.

Perfection.........!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Following a wonderful stay last September, my wife and I were fortunate to celebrate my 73rd birthday with another weekend stay at the Ritz from the 14th of March to the 16th.. And as it coincided with Mother’s Day, a double celebration. Our two and a half year old grandson and his parents who live in London joined us on Sunday to celebrate two Mums! As before when I reviewed the Ritz, everything was perfect and if possible even more so. We cannot pretend to be multi millionaires (unfortunately!) but were treated as such by the incredibly friendly and always courteous staff. You are greeted with “Welcome home”, and that’s exactly what it feels like. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff are always willing to share their extensive knowledge of food wine, London and a multitude of other subjects .It’s lovely to be addressed by name, and have things such as food allergies etc. remembered and automatically applied from visit to visit. Although the building is going through a massive development programme at the moment we had no disturbances at all during our stay – the taxi drop off point has switched from Arlington Street to the centre of the Piccadilly frontage (Uber still directs to Arlington Street so worth mentioning to your driver, though most probably know already), and the windows of the magnificent restaurant overlooking Green Park have been tactfully frosted to avoid a view of a building material lift and rubbish chute in typical Ritz style. When the Palm Court was renovated a few years ago, the entrance was concealed with the ultimate hoarding – all mirrors and gilt! And as yet no disturbance at all to the grand ground floor spaces, witnessed by myself on Mother’s Day when my grandson developed a new game of going up the Grand Staircase, three flights, then fortunately down in the lift, only touching (briefly) the emergency call button once!! After the fifth round I handed him over to his mum for a few more circuits. And when you have a little chap who enjoys pointing at chandeliers, what better place!
