Serengeti Sopa Lodge
Arusha, Tanzania
Only opened in Dec after extension renovation ( previously known as Serengeti Sopa ), this 75 room lodge is nothing short of words . A perfectly modern designed place , a true gem in central Serengeti . It is approx 1.15 hr from senonera airstrip . Enroute to lodge saw great game . It has main dining , pool bar and restaurant , bar lounge , spa , shop , large pool, gym , boma dining , complimemtary guided talk, explorer birding tour , explorer star gazing , silent outdoor cinema , wildlife photographic hide , photographic studios . It had golf buggies incase you need . Chef Abbas produced some amazing dishes . Want to try chef’s table with wine pairing , which is available at extra cost . Outdoor fireplace for evening sundowner and after dinner cigar. Spa is small but Vanessa was excellent . Lunch menu was perfect with choice if burgers , mezze , pasta , pizza and more . I would spend min if 4-5 nights and relax 1-2 days here without doing any game drives . Laundry service was so good and complimentary that they also offer to clean your safari shoes . It does not have AC ( suites have AC), but a small fan and can get hot but you can open the balcony door as have A meshnet. Family room is available . Great place for family bonding . Full board rate includes Accommodation, laundry services, and all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in the main restaurant, soft drinks, house beers, house wines and selected house spirits, teas, coffees, and refreshments (all on the property).

The newly opened (December '24) Serengeti Explorer by Elewana (previously Sopa Lodge) was an absolute dream! Our 2 night stay here was nothing short of spectacular. A stunning architectural feat, spanning over a vast area in the heart of the Serengeti, the Explorer is luxury at its finest. The interiors and structure of the hotel were nothing like I've ever seen. A marriage between traditional African aesthetics and modern contemporary exteriors was a vision to behold. The rooms were equipped with everything you could possibly need in 2025 - a special mention for the remote controlled net blind that you could bring down in order to keep insects out of your room while enjoying the fresh breeze coming in through the window. Our balcony faced the vast Serengeti plains, a view I won't ever be able to forget. The staff deserves a very very special shout out, especially Freddy, our personal attendant. He ensured we were taken care of every step of the way, and made us extremely comfortable. The attention to detail, service, and food were all impeccable. I have no suggestions, no complaints, and no changes that needed to be made. This was an experience I won't soon forget.

We came to Serengeti after staying at Ngorongoro. We were staying at the Sopa in Ngoro as well. The one at the Serengeti is not as grand as the one in Ngoro, but is amazing in it’s own way. The rooms are adequately sized and done up. The balcony opens up to the Serengeti. The hotel is perched on a cliff in the middle of the plains, so you have a great view of the sunrise. You are surrounded by wildlife, and we heard Lions roaring all night. It feels like they are roaring right under your balcony. They have been known to come to drink from the hotel pool :-). Food is good, with plenty of continental/Indian and local options. I would advise you to go for the local options. There is a space in the balcony of the restaurant, and I would always recommend eating there. Feels like a dinner in the middle of the bush. The staff is awesome, and they put on quite a show for your entertainment. My 7 year old kid joined in their dances and they were very kind to her throughout. I would highly recommend this hotel.

This Lodge is situated inside Serengeti National Park, surrounded by nature and animals. Its deco may not be to everyone’s taste, but its view from guest rooms and the restaurant will take everyone’s breath away. Both our bedroom and bathroom are very spacious, there is a separate little sitting area as well. all the amenities are there. The balcony opens to an incredibly beautiful vista. Truly amazing. The restaurant serving staff are warm and friendly, there are both normal western food and local dishes, I enjoyed local choices. The only criticism is the lighting in the room, it’s quite dark. Overall, it’s a nice place to stay for the safari. Happy to recommend it.
