As you may or may not know, it is a journey to get to Aguas Calientes. We had travelled all day from since 6 am from Lima and we got to Sumaq around 9:30 p.m. Jose was the first of many friendly faces and welcoming spirits from Sumaq. He helped us with our luggage, and filled us in with all the wonders of Sumaq. We had an amazing dinner. We took well deserved showers and relaxed in our robes. The hotel is beautiful and made the long rigorous travel worth it. There were complimentary drinks and breakfast. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had all the information needed for our stay at Aguas Calientes not just their hotel. Jose then again said goodbye to us by dropping off our luggage at the train. They did asked about our stay and how they could improve. I’ll say it again, “it could have not been more perfect.” Thank you to everyone at Sumaq, it was truly a pleasure.

All staff were super helpful, respectful and kind. I was really impressed by Jose, Roque, Fredy, Frank, Richard, and David. Jose and Roque refused to leave until the train station until they knew we would make our train as we were waiting for my son. I honestly have never experienced such care. The amenities in the room were fantastic.

Our stay in Sumaq was amazing. From the moment we arrived in the Machu Picchu train station, we were greeted with friendly professionalism. Since we were very early for a check in, the staff that met us took possession of our luggage. Upon our return in the evening to check in the hotel, we were revived with wet towels and a welcome cocktail. The entire check in process was seem seamless all while sitting in very comfortable couches. The room was well appointment with many complementary extras, including beer, snacks seltzer water, coffee, teas and some great chocolate. Shortly after, Sumaq staff knocked on the door to offer more goodies. Beds were comfortable, toiletries were high end, furniture was beautiful and up to date. The restaurant offered a good variety of tasty dishes, mostly locally inspired, including Peruvian wine (try the Sauvignon Blanc). Complementary breakfast was plentiful with some of the freshest fruits I’ve ever consumed. The staff was always friendly and helpful, specially Frank from the front desk, who will do anything to make your stay more comfortable. Overall, Sumaq is the perfect way to start and finish your trek to Machu Picchu.
