La Menina

Walk out to the back lawn at La Menina and the Caribbean Sea sits in front of you, the fairways of Teeth of the Dog visible to the side. It's the rare oceanfront villa where guests see both from the same lounger. Set on a Costamar bluff above the south coast, the villa sleeps twelve across six ensuite bedrooms, including an ocean-view primary suite and five more rooms suited to couples or families. An included chef handles all the meals.

Breakfast is on the covered terrace with the lawn and the water in view. The curved pool runs along the back edge of the property with loungers in a line. The indoor bar, with its frosted bamboo-patterned doors and stocked shelving, pulls double duty between long lunches and refills before a swim. By late afternoon the group splits, the golfers walking back through the resort core and the rest still on the pool deck. Sundown is on the rooftop. The plunge pool and the bar both face the open sea, and once the light starts to go no one heads back down except for plates.

Teeth of the Dog and The Links tee off a short cart ride from the villa, the resort's championship pair, with Teeth of the Dog ranked the Caribbean's top course by the World Golf Awards. Minitas Beach is the same short ride away for a day on the sand, with chairs and food and drink service waiting. Altos de Chavón is the dinner trip when the group wants something other than the chef's table, and the Marina sits a longer drive east. La Menina is the villa to book when the trip is built around the chef, the bar, and a view that holds both the sea and the golf course at once.
