Step out the back door at Tropical Modern and the lawn opens onto a fairway with no fence between — the kind of garden where two families can take the same week off and stop crowding each other. The villa is set in Los Naranjos, one of the quieter neighbourhoods at Casa de Campo, with a fairway running along one side and palm hedges down the other. Five bedrooms, ten guests, with an included cook handling all the meals.

The early hours are quiet, with breakfast on the grass and the kids still asleep. No one's in a hurry the first hour. By midday everyone has split between the pool and the loungers. Lunch is at the covered palapa, which is large enough for half the group at a round table and the other half on a daybed across from it. The arrival into the villa is its own room — open to the sky, a reflecting pool down the middle. Copper chains hang from the eaves above, and on the rare afternoon it rains, the water comes down them in sequence.
