Exceeded All Expectations

First and foremost, shout out to our two amazing and loving nannies (Omi and Loddy) who watched our two children and took them on adventures every day. We were able to spend time making memories with the kids but also got plenty of time to relax and do activities without the kids like the spa and jet ski tour. We also really enjoyed being taken out on the Hobie cat (twice!) and doing the river kayaking. We ate every meal at the restaurant for 7 days. The breakfast spread was awesome, especially the freshly baked pastries. Lunch and dinner menus were varied and creative. I tended towards the curries and the seafood dishes which were all great. Overall, the resort grounds are beautifully kept with flowers everywhere. We had a ground level room right on the beach with a private infinity plunge pool which was an awesome setup. All the staff were super friendly and welcoming.

Beautiful location but service missing some attention to detail

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Overall we had a fabulous week at Nanuku. We stayed in a two bedroom garden villa which was beautiful and comfortable. We loved our private pool and courtyard and all the space in the villa. The full size fridge was useful and there was even a laundry with washer/dryer which was an unexpected bonus. The team were very friendly, always greeting us when passing. The resort was well cared for with beautiful grounds. We loved being near the water. The food was overall very good but overpriced. I knew what we were in for and had budgeted accordingly but it still stung. I would have loved to give five stars, but unfortunately a lack of attention to detail in a number of areas really let the resort down. - On arrival, two out of our four first names were spelled incorrectly on the welcome sign on our door and the welcome letter. I pointed it out and it was fixed on their system but at least three more times I was handed a chit to sign and our surname was spelled incorrectly. Getting people’s names right is a basic courtesy. Other reviewers commented on the resort team knowing their names but that was not our experience. Most of them couldn’t remember our room number let alone a name. - We didn’t receive our warrior welcome on arrival and were then offered it at breakfast a couple of days later when it suited the resort. It really felt a bit late to be doing it then so we declined. - A full bag of housekeeping rubbish from the previous guests including beer bottles, food, coconuts and flowers was left in the corner of the second bedroom when we arrived. - There was absolutely no body wash in the master shower on arrival which I only discovered when I was in the shower the first morning. - The kitchen sink had a faulty seal so when the plug was in the water leaked all over the floor. - Housekeeping came onto the back courtyard terrace to sweep one morning and saw we were in the pool area and she went back inside and locked the door, locking us out of our villa. She ignored our knocks on the door. Luckily my husband was wearing his wristband so walked out the back gate and back to our front door to get back in. - We received a letter outlining our tour details for the next day addressed to another family not us, and indicating a booking for 2px when we had booked for four. - Our second bathroom only had one hand towel on the first day and it was taken on the second day and not replenished the whole week. The master bathroom started the week with two hand towels and two face cloths but by day four we were down to one and by day six we also had no hand towels. - On our final full day a maintenance team interrupted us and asked us to leave our lounge area so they could replace the perfectly functional TV with one that they hung crookedly on the wall and couldn’t be straightened, and the TV did not work properly afterwards so we couldn’t use the TV for our final day and evening. I don’t understand why they couldn’t have waited until we checked out. - The charges for local transfers/taxis seemed to be made up on the spot. We were charged $60 for our first trip to the Tru Mart (10 min drive) for three of us. The next trip was also going to be $60 to a local pub only five minutes away. I challenged the price and it was changed to $50 on the spot. The third trip back to Tru Mart was a staggering $90!! I suspect there is a deal with the local supplier to keep costs high to a) deter people leaving the resort to eat and b) to ensure profits for locals. Even with the $90 charge, a meal outside the resort was half the price of resort meals. Some of the items above we raised with the resort team, but I didn’t want to be one of those people always complained about something and we were on holiday! The small things do matter and it took some of the gloss off our experience. Hopefully Nanuku can learn from this and upskill the team to provide a truly world class experience for others.
