Luxurious relaxing family holiday in paradise

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Our family of three just spent 7 days at the Jean-Michel Cousteau resort and had a really incredible, memorable stay. This is the most beautiful and luxurious resort we have ever been to. The location on the tip of the peninsula is stunning and secluded, the staff are extremely welcoming and attentive, the rooms are very comfortable, and the food is fine dining every meal, every day. Our 4 year old loved the kids club and his nanny and we really appreciated having some adult-only time to relax. We did a lot of the complimentary excursions including the rainforest walk and village visit and really enjoyed then. The snorkelling is amazing! Highly recommend this place. The price tag is more than other options in Fiji but considering both the quality and quantity of what’s included it is well worth it!

Most Expensive Fish & Chips in the World

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Casually popped into the restaurant to experience the ambience and claims of a place to enjoy delicious food and tranquility of eco surroundings ......this was the case but got slapped with $F380 for 4 serves of Fish and Chips without any beverages.

Outstanding dive vacation and resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Our family of three had a fantastic time at the resort. The staff was incredible with excellent service and made us feel like family. They went above and beyond in every department - restaurant and bar, activities, and dive center. They were magnificent with our adult handicapped daughter and engaged her in all types of activities while we were on dive trips. The evening entertainment from village groups was especially entertaining and provided a look at the local culture. The dive sites are fantastic and the dive shop and crew are excellent. Great food and beautiful sunsets. Overall an outstanding vacation and highly recommended.

Magnificent reef but not as great as the last time

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

We stayed at Jean-Michel Cousteau in 2022 and were so impressed that we brought more family members this time. It didn't live up the the expectations. The good: -The activities crew remain superb-they made special accommodations for those in our group who fell behind or needed extra help. They make up for the shortfalls in other sections. -Having marine biologists on hand and the night snorkel also made the experience memorable. -The spa is so relaxing. Worth it!! -The property remains beautifully maintained and is a leader in ecotourism. -Management really tries to rectify any issues and remembered us from the last visit, making us feel like family. The less good: - October/November is hot. Really hot. There is no air conditioning and the open windows and shades only do so much. Everyone gets cranky without a way to be cooled. August was more ideal - Food and food service was subpar. Food took forever to arrive. Orders were often incorrect. No drink refills come easily unless you're paying extra for alcoholic beverages. Not all nonalcoholic beverages were free, unlike last time. While the cost is still low, it's annoying to be told one thing from the website and then get charged something else. There's a good variety of food but nothing I loved as much as last time. The food was overall lackluster. Apparently, it was a new menu and it was taking time for the staff to catch on. That doesn't explain getting often ignored. I truly hope the resort corrects some of these issues.

A week in paradise...

Travelled mid-January and just returned from JMC. Everyone in our group had an amazing time. And the staff went out of their way to ensure we were made to feel like family. Ate way too much great food, with plenty of selections available for all covering a range of dietary requirements within our group - and a number of special requests for non-menu items were mostly fulfilled by the kitchen. We did not experience any delays with food or service - and were perhaps quite fortunate that the resort was relatively quiet during our stay having just ending their "bumper" Christmas rush period. High staff:guest ratio, which was made even higher through lower occupancy levels during our stay. Whilst on the downside this meant meeting and interacting with fewer other guests, the service and attention received from the JMC team was impeccable. No shortage of activities to participate in as other reviewers have mentioned. Immersion in Fijian culture certainly a highlight - village visits, kava ceremonies, singing and dancing, basket weaving, competitive volleyball and soccer, etc. Plenty of swimming, snorkelling, (we also dived extensively with JMC diving based in the resort), kayaking, waterfall visit - all great experiences. A minor maintenance issue we raised was addressed within the hour, and the bure itself was well cared for and housekeeping did an amazing job twice daily. We had no need of a nanny, however observed other families interacting with their assigned carer and can see why those with infants and young children also love this resort. No, this isn't the place to go for large white sandy beaches, or TV's in rooms - but that wasn't why we chose JMC. Other than the lack of air-conditioning in bures (which would be nice at times) and some persistent mosquitos (plenty of repellant provided) JMC met and exceeded our expectations and we were very sad to leave. Vinaka vakalevu to all!
