What do I need to know for a trip to Prague?
Passport: U.S. visitors can stay visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period in the Schengen Area. Your passport should remain valid for at least three months after your planned departure.
New border process: The Entry/Exit System (EES) is now operating, so expect your passport details, facial image and fingerprints to be recorded when entering the Schengen Area.
ETIAS: As of August 2026, ETIAS is not yet operational. Check its status shortly before your trip.
Money: The currency is the Czech koruna (CZK), not the euro. Cards and contactless payments are widely accepted.
Tipping: Around 10% is a good rule of thumb for good restaurant service.
Getting around: Prague is wonderfully walkable, with excellent trams and metro service. If using a paper transit ticket, make sure it is properly validated.
Power: Electricity is 230V. Bring a European plug adapter for U.S. devices.
Airport arrival: Public transit, Airport Express and official airport ride services all connect Václav Havel Airport with central Prague.
Pack smart: Cobblestones are charming right up until your shoes disagree. Bring polished-but-walkable footwear.
Book the good stuff early: Top restaurants, private guides, classical performances and premium castle experiences deserve advance reservations.

Prague has mastered the art of looking effortlessly cinematic. Start with the classics—Prague Castle before the crowds, a golden-hour stroll across Charles Bridge, and a glass of something sparkling with the Vltava doing its best impression of liquid silver.
Then make the city yours. Slip into Vrtba Garden, a terraced Baroque beauty tucked behind Malá Strana, and linger over the rooftop views. Trade the standard river cruise for an intimate glide along the Čertovka Canal, or go delightfully grand with a private concert in a Gothic tower—an experience Prague City Tourism can arrange through select premium partners.
For a different chapter of the city, head to Vyšehrad. Its fortress walls, gardens and river views feel wonderfully removed from Old Town’s bustle; guided visits can also venture into the historic underground passages. Afterwards, drift toward Náplavka, where former riverside storage vaults have been reinvented as cafés, bars and shops. It is an excellent place to watch Prague loosen its collar.
Save room for a little modern mischief. Browse Czech fashion, art and design at the restored Hrzánská Arcade near Old Town Square, then let a private guide steer you through Letná for a mix of design, film and food. Finish with dinner somewhere candlelit, a nightcap with a skyline view, and absolutely no obligation to be sensible about dessert.
Prague rewards curiosity with doors behind doors, gardens behind walls and stories hiding in plain sight. Come for the spires; stay for the secret passages, the private performances and the delicious feeling that the city has let you in on something.
