Sea Wall Notification
We are excited to announce a significant upgrade to our Alaia Belize Resort. Starting on May 1st to November 1st, 2024, Alaia is constructing a new sea wall which will enrich our luxury resort experience, creating an expanded pristine beach with over 800ft of ocean frontage. During this period, access to certain areas of our beachfront will be intermittently interrupted. Rest assured, our commitment to your luxurious stay remains steadfast. We appreciate your understanding as we undertake these enhancements to elevate our resort. Should you have any questions or require assistance with your upcoming stay, our dedicated team is at your service.
Situated in the idyllic and historic town of San Pedro, Alaia Belize will operate as the first true four diamond resort on Ambergris Caye. The beachfront hotel sits just 600 meters from the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve offering stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and featuring a piano bar, live art gallery, wine club, three restaurants, four bars, three pools including Belize’s first-ever suspended rooftop pool and lounge with 360-degree views. The Alaia Belize Lifestyle is curated to echo and embrace the Belizean spirit with genuine hospitality, barefoot luxury and an adventurous soul.

For my birthday this year, my wife and I decided to go to Belize and after some research we chose the Alaia Belize. This property was less than a 15 minute Golf cart ride from the local airport. As soon as we arrived we received cold towels and drinks and a nice experience at check-in with Blanca. In fact, Blanca was pleasant everytime we interacted with her and was wonderful throughout the whole experience. Elvis helped us with our luggage to our room and helped us get acquainted with the resort and the amenities. The room itself was very spacious and the bathroom and layout were very Spa-like. There was more than enough room for my wife and I to spread out and enjoy the island. The shower was big and the bed had a medium firmness to it which was great for sleeping. We didn't expect to have a full sized refrigerator but once we saw it, I immediately made plans to head to the closest supermarket to stock up on drinks and snacks for the week. The main pool was nice and central to the property, and we rarely visited the rooftop pool. At night both pools lit up nicely and provided great ambience for those around the area. We could not do the beach due to sargassum and the sea wall, so we visited Caye Caulker to make it a true beach vacation. For amenities on the property, I did use the gym a lot and I did receive the best massage on my birthday. We rarely ate at the property, but as a Jamaican, I have to say that the jerk chicken served at the bar was excellent! I think I had that same meal three times and I am never one to repeat going to a restaurant when on a vacation. Speaking of the bar, the employees that kept up the vibes there were the stars of the show for me. Blanca a.k.a. OG Blanca, Henry, Chris, Shakira aka Selena, and Ernestina aka Tina were absolutely perfect ambassadors of Belize and Alaia. On my birthday, they got me a shot of tequila and a tres leches cake which I almost wanted to eat by myself! Martin, part of the pool team, also helped me with suggestions related to Caye Caulker and was very kind as well. Even the security and I exchanged smiles and fist bumps every so often. Overall, we had an amazing time at the ALaia and would recommend it for anyone traveling to San Pedro. Be sure to check out prices for the best golf cart and most importantly: Go slow!

We are headed home, from a family stay at the Marriott Alaia in Belize. While there were bright spots, this visit fell far below what I expect from a Marriott-branded resort—especially at this price point. The Highlights: -Adrian, the manager, stood out. After an extremely long wait at Sea Salt, she personally found my husband, apologized, and offered a 20% discount on a future meal. That’s how you lead—she salvaged our first impression. -The spa service was excellent. The scrub was one of the best I’ve ever had. -Concierge staff was very helpful, booking our flights and explaining the ins and outs of the area. -The resort feels uncrowded, with ample space at the pools and rooftop. -The suite layout is great for families (even though they didn’t want to open the door that connects the two areas, explaining that they usually don’t do that. Mind you, during booking, it was a hotel representative that suggested this room set up. The suite came with a full kitchen, room service, and complimentary bottled water. -Friendly people overall at the hotel and in San Pedro. But…I have to tell the truth about the issues. - We paid for a “master ocean view suite” and were placed in a room facing HVAC systems. We had TWO massive patios with nothing but a mechanical view. Incredibly misleading. -Booking bait-and-switch. We received an invoice before arrival and paid the deposit requested. At check-in, the hotel said we owed over $800 more due to their own internal billing mistake. It took 30+ minutes for the front desk to call around trying to understand the issue. Ultimately, we were made to feel like the error was ours. -The food delay, in Sea Salt, was absurd. Over an hour for food at a nearly empty restaurant—because “room service takes priority”? -The phone system doesn’t work. Pressing “0” goes nowhere. Want towels? Use the app. It’s much quicker. But don’t use it to open your room door; that doesn’t work. -The airport pickup was shocking. An old van with missing door handles met us—Marriott branding nowhere in sight. For a luxury resort, that first impression was jarring. -False advertising on activities. The hotel promotes snorkeling and shark tours on its signage and website. When we tried to book, we were told the hotel’s boat was broken and were offered a 3rd-party excursion—more expensive, and we’d have to arrange our own transportation. -Hidden costs everywhere. Water is free in your room—but at the restaurant, it’s $5 per bottle. We found out at checkout that we’d paid over $30 per meal just for water. No one mentioned this until we saw the final bill. Add in a 10% service fee and 12% resort charge on everything. -No beach access. There’s a seawall and no sandy entrance to the ocean. Not their fault … just be aware. -Design flaws: No shower doors (just a partial glass partition), the kids’ room opens directly to the outside through a glass patio door with curtains for privacy. -Rainy season? Be careful—there are no covered walkways, and the beautiful stone paths become dangerously slick. My 78 year old mother had to navigate this carefully. Final Thoughts: This was a special trip for our family—and we paid for a premium experience ($5K+ just for the hotel). Unfortunately, what we received was a confusing booking process, false promises, and service that fell far short of Marriott standards. There were kind people, for sure. But kind people can’t fix poor systems.

I would bet this is the most luxurious hotel in San Pedro. As soon as I walked in it smelled amazing and we were offered a signature beverage and face towel which was so welcome after a long travel day. Though I wouldn’t go back during rainy season, our hotel itself was beautiful, the staff like Eric was so very kind/helpful, and the food was delicious. My only suggestion is that if you want easy ocean access I wouldn’t stay here. Yes it has a beach but the ocean is walled off with a literal wall and a ladder. Would highly recommend this hotel!!

We stayed at the Alaia Hotel for 5 nights, it was an absolutely amazing time. The resort was beautifully maintained and the rooms are spacious and clean. The staff is superb, they were welcoming and warm. They were knowledgeable about the hotel and off-site activities and attractions. The bartenders and wait staff were friendly and pleasant. A special shout-out to Mr. Eric, who will most likely be the first person to greet and welcome you to the hotel as he was with us. He was so helpful the entire stay, he shared the best tips to make our time in Belize more enjoyable and memorable. A truly amazing time in Belize with Alaia as a great place to rest up each night, or hang out pool side or beach side all day. Highly recommend.
