Luxury hotel in the center of Amsterdam

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 hours ago

For our stay in Amsterdam we decided to stay in the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky which lies central downtown at the Dam Place. It is a perfect starting point if you like to walk all over the places of interest in this city. The hotel is an oasis of luxury inside the city. The staff very attentive and helpful how you can expect from a 5 star hotel. You will find a Michelin star restaurant, the Grand Cafe Krasnapolsky and the bar The Tayler. About the Grand Cafe Krasnapolsky I made an extra review. In the bar we have been only one time because of the smoke area beside. As we are no smokers the automatic door is opening and closing slowly all the time and so all the smoke from outside came inside. The breakfast buffet is a real dream. You can find there nearly all what you wish include Champagne if you need that for breakfast. The room where you are looking for it is located in a wonderful Wintergarden. You must know that the hotel consists of 2 buildings which are connected by an airbridge. We had the room number 3123 which is with view to the Pijlsteeg . This very small alley connect the Dam with the Oudezijds Voorburgwal which is part of the Red Light District. This room lies in front of a Bar which is very noisy because of the small alley. If you are sensitive of noise you should not accept rooms at this site up to the 6th floor. Despite it we enjoyed our stay in the hotel.

Very nice hotel, some oddities exist

Overall the hotel is very nice and clean. There were a few odd experiences though. Our hotel room was in the 4th elevator. By the end I appreciated the location but as a first experience it was a bit jarring. You effectively walk to the back of the hotel and see the car park garage to your right as you get on the elevator. Not only does the elevator need some cleaning up, when you get to the 6th floor in our case, you see a lot of water stains and age outside the building as your view on your way to your hotel room. My biggest challenge was the sound. Someone was crying next door and eventually yelled and hit the wall which wasn't a great first night experience. This wasn't the hotel's fault but the clarity at which we could hear crying was something that hasn't been addressed by the hotel. Too much sound travel between rooms, especially the bathrooms seem to be a problem. The worst part about the sound was that it seemed like if anyone was walking on their floor (they are wood) you could hear the vibration while laying in bed. So getting to sleep was a challenge, even with a white noise app on my phone. I will give the hotel strong appreciation for moving our room after the first night. They were kind enough to see if another room would help. It did seem to make some difference. The sound did still travel but being in an end room quieted some of it.

Fabulous

Beautiful hotel situated in the main square. Breakfast was a feast for the eyes and the settling was luxurious. Staff very friendly and professional. Close walking distance to shops, restaurants and bars. Rooms were impeccable with soundproofing so no noise from outside could be heard. Would highly recommend.

Grand hotel, for a city weekend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I booked this for our weekend in Amsterdam. Location being key, as we needed to be near the middle of everything only having a couple of days to get around. Close to the nine streets for shopping and close to the main station. Very good hotel, staff were helpful and available, slept well in a comfortable room, buffet breakfast was fine and the whole experience was not disappointing. It is exactly a grand building, perfect location for a weekend in the city.

Lovely hotel in a great location but at top end price could do better.

Really great location for our city break. Service was excellent from a very friendly team. The only minor gripes I had were - with the top end price point I would’ve expected table service at breakfast rather than a free for all buffet. We had a premium room with a view of Dam Square which was great but very noisy with windows open, also the room lighting was too subdued.
