Reviews for Hotel Captain Cook

Favorite hotel in Anchorage

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I have stayed at the Captain Cook for business many times over the years, and it continues to be my favorite hotel in Anchorage. Classy, clean, excellent views. I really like the updated coffee shop - it’s so much larger now and a great place to work. There is nothing like a drink at the crow’s nest bar at the end of the day!

Not worth the premium price.

Hotel is very dated. Yes it’s in the old wood sailing vessel style but the rooms are showing their age. Wood corners are no longer fresh, bathroom is very dark, no light in or near the shower unlike modern standards. Internet is very slow. If you stream a show it either stops or is grainy. Wallpaper is peeling at the seems. No A/C in the room, could not get the room down to a comfortable temperature to sleep in. Having the window open brought in a bit cooler air but you get the street noise. Cars & the local drunk homeless screaming. The low tier Marriott brands like Fairfield are better & much cheaper. I would not spend my dollar here but work puts me up here though I wish they wouldn’t. Capt Cook is billed as a top tier hotel in ANC. I travel for a living. It’s one of my least favorite.

A reception without service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Most things are ok at the hotel, but the reception managers are extraordenary little service-oriented. I am travelling much in many countries, and have stayed at Captain Cook several times, but each time I have concluded that I will not stay there next time because of the reception staff. They are not lisening and not willing to say "yes, Sir, this we find out of". As an example, when I checked out today I asked for a specified bill of the laundry. The the answer was that I had to send a mail to the accounting dep on monday. The lack of service at the reception has been there everytime I have been in the hotel. I will not use the hotel anymore. The receptionists need an education course with the title .. you should do more to make sure that guest is happy about the stay at the hotel.

Best hotel in Anchorage!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

From the moment you arrive, everyone at this hotel goes out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. The valets are always ready to help, nothing is too much for them and they will have your bags loaded before you can ask. Front desk staff is lovely - they went out of their way to get my friend real creamer for her coffee in the room. The rooms are immaculate. Views out of the window were stunning from the 16th floor - full view of the Chugach range. Ate at both Fletcher's and the Pantry - great food, fabulous service. Pool was great - attendants are so helpful and friendly. Would stay here again if I'm in Anchorage.

Wonderful stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I had a very friendly welcome to the hotel. The room was very comfortable, spacious, had plenty of coffee and had a great view. The waitress in the breakfast area (Karen) was lovely. I also had room service on two evenings which was promptly delivered by Fletchers. The food was delicious and I was given two slices of cheesecake for the price of one! I would definitely stay here again.
