Reviews for Cottages on Biltmore Estate

Best place I've every stayed!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Best place I've ever stayed! Rooms are on the small side, but luxurious. There was a rose in our room, and wine, and a commemorative book. Room service was fast and good. The lobby is comfortable. The lounge was lovely. We did have a couple of service issues, but management listened, took notes, and made corrections. It was really top notch. We were on a bird photography trip, and wouldn't have needed to leave the grounds.

Disappointing and Substandard Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Sadly, this was an all-around cheap motel level experience, rather than the elegant, sophisticated, and professionally run establishment one would expect at the Biltmore. We arrived at the Inn two hours early and enquired about a 2:00 entry. The front desk clerk pushed many many buttons on her computer and then excused herself to the rear office to “consult” with her hotel managers. After five minutes she returned and asked the other clerk if any rooms were ready in our selected category. The other clerk showed her a stack of papers for available rooms. Our clerk said she was going to switch us from a room that wasn’t yet cleaned, to a room that was newly updated and ready for occupancy. She again pushed many many buttons on her computer and again retreated to the “magical” back room. Meanwhile the remaining clerk was making calls to advise awaiting patrons that their rooms were ready. Another too-long a period of time passed and the clerk returned. She stated that check-in was at 4:00 and we were welcome to wait. Since she had already stated that our room was ready, we waited and missed out on the opportunity to have a few hours exploring Asheville. We were called over to the desk with our room ready at 3:57 PM. (Please note that we would have been very happy to just drop our luggage and return to the hotel at 4 PM. We were excited to explore Asheville.) I met with a manager the next day as the check-in experience was so poorly handled. Sadly, he did not understand and kept repeating that he knew it was hard to see other patrons getting a room while we waited. It is clear that staff training is crucial at the hotel. Our newly updated room was really not ready to house guests. The smell of paint and wallpaper glue was so strong, and the windows did not open. The room we booked was a “Deluxe King featuring a king bed, desk with two chairs and lounge chair.” The actual room had a small, round table and one chair. Certainly not suitable for two people in the room. We asked for an additional chair, and a dirty chair from the catering department was brought up. We asked several times for luggage racks. We requested foam pillows, and someone came to the room with more feather pillows. This newly transformed room had the absolutely worst mattress we have ever slept on. It was hard and of a poor quality. We actually thought there were two box springs, rather than a matress. We asked for several duvets so that we had some padding underneath us, and they sent up duvet covers without the insert. Our sink drain was stuck in the closed position, so that the sink would not drain. The repair person simply got it stuck in the open position, instead of fixing it. All of the outlets were defective. Plugs would fall out of the few in the room. The telephone in the room did not work. The hairdryer was old and went on fire! Each time we asked for anything, it took a very long time to arrive. Especially the hair dryer. We had dinner plans that were impacted by this delay. After hearing other guests talking about all of the problems in their rooms, it was confirmed to us that these rooms were not ready and should not have been used for guests. During the day, workers banged in the hallway hanging pictures and working on other rooms. Each morning there was a problem with the lobby coffee service. The urns were empty, coffee cold, and cream/milks mixed up. The restaurant was the bright spot to our otherwise poor experience at the Biltmore. The service there was exceptional, the food outstanding, and we whole-heartedly recommend dining there. Our next stays on this journey through the south at the JW Marriott in Savannah and Hotel Bennett in Charleston, were spectacular and of the quality and service that the Biltmore was sorely lacking. Sad to leave such an unfavorable review, but our experience at the Biltmore was substandard.

Excellent place to stay near everything! We went to see the Chihuly exhibit and walk the gardens and visit the winery. Absolutely the most beautifully done gardens and atrium! Check out the free wine tasting and sample our favorite wine, Hunt! 🍷❤️🍷

Best Place to Celebrate a 30th Yr BFF Anniversary

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel has the best staff. My Best Friend and I made a trip here for a weekend getaway to celebrate our 30th year Best Friends Forever (BFF) anniversary w/no kids and spouses. We had a great time! Upon arrival we were greeted by the nicest valet team. Inside, check in was smooth and the hotel is absolutely lovely. The rooms are spacious and pristine; even the hallways are clean! On our first night, we dined at The Library Lounge. Our flight and drive ended up taking longer than anticipated so by the time we grabbed dinner the kitchen was nearing close. Mary took our orders and made sure to let us know about last call. The food and drinks were delicious. We wrapped up the evening by enjoying the outdoor patio and fireside. For breakfast we dined at The Dining Room and again had fabulous service from Anita. She was incredibly GF knowledgeable and attentive about my gluten intolerance. The food was delicious. We also had wonderful massage services at The Spa and enjoyed the hot stones and face masque enhancement. On the estate we were able to easily visit the Biltmore House and Gardens as the hotel offers a shuttle service. My only disappointment is I wished we could have stayed longer. We’ll be back and next time with our spouses for a couple’s retreat! We are so grateful for the wonderful hospitality. Thank you!

A relaxing getaway

Best service we have had in a while- from the valet to the restaurant everyone was gracious and helpful. View was amazing from any point in the hotel. We enjoying hiking around the property and being able to just take our time to enjoy the outdoors. We will definitely be back. An extremely relaxing location.
