First of all, a really good location with all of Auckland just a few steps away. In addition to this, everything seems to be newly refurbished and renovated, which made the first impressions really good. We arrived in the evening and were informed that we were upgraded to a room on a higher floor, which was greatly appreciated. In the room, a welcome amenity and a personal note awaited us. The room was clean, had great views, and was modern with light colors and a large bathroom. The breakfast was good, had a large assortment, and the staff were friendly. The only downside was that the latte cost extra - I have never had that experience before - especially not where eggs and coffee are made to order and served directly to the table. Other than that, everything was fresh and tasty. The gym was very good with a lot of equipment. The pool and the changing rooms seemed to be good as well. A few hours before checking out, the hotel had to shut the water off, which happens. Sadly, we didn't receive the notice that was supposed to have reached all guests - mistakes are made and it's also ok. When I went down to the reception to check out, I mentioned this, and I was genuinely surprised by the treatment I received from Kristina, the Front Office Manager. It was really good; she really seemed to care, and she made things right - handled it professionally and made sure the stay ended on a high note. I will definitely come back when in Auckland.

Marriott always a lovely place. The lobby smells so good at this place. With so many people around it’s not noisy. Very effecient front desk. Super super helpful. Great guides to a lot of things around. A smiling lot and happy to help with more than just a smile. A quick chat or gossip as well on a common interests making it so comfortable. Rooms I chose the standard twin beds. Good room size, comfortable beds, well stocked mini bar, good tv size, good toiletries. Has a tub and a shower cubicle which is good. Hate that don’t. Small pool indoor but really don’t have time to use it if you out the entire day The breakfast buffet is classic. A huge variety of items to choose from. The service team, excellent service with a smile. Negatives Lacks adequate tv channels Carpet on floor outside room makes it tough to walk suitcase need to drag The gym has some limitations. No water station inside gym. Need to come out walk down few steps. Come out of area thru key card fill a glass and carry it back same route. No entry without key card 2 levels. Quite a thing. The hotel channel talked of ice plunge in gym, but non functional. Message can always be modified to say not available, why advertise when not in order. Overall can’t not go back . It so well located near the wharf and thr queen street for shopping.

I stayed at the JW Marriott Auckland while on vacation in October. My last stay there was a couple of years ago, while the hotel was undergoing renovation. The service wasn’t great then, but I thought things would be better after the renovation. I was completely wrong. The service here is absolutely the worst I have ever experienced in any Marriott property. I arrived slightly before my scheduled arrival time, and my room wasn’t ready. Completely understandable, so I waited in the lobby. There is no lounge at this property, and the staff didn’t offer me any refreshments, but I figured it would be a short wait. 90 minutes passed, and my room still wasn’t ready. The excuse from the staff was housekeeping was working on the room. For 90 minutes? The excuse then changed to they wanted to upgrade me due to my Ambassador Elite status - I never requested an upgrade! I just wanted the room I had booked. I finally got my room after threatening to leave for the Accor next door, which had rooms available. I received a call from the manager apologising, and offering 10000 points for the inconvenience. I never received the points. The service at breakfast is atrocious and inconsistent as well. I ordered my eggs, and they never arrived. The order never made it to the kitchen. I was charged for my coffee on one day, but not on the other. This property should not be a Marriott property, much less a JW. There’s a number of Intercontinental and Accor properties nearby, those would be much better options.
