JW Marriott Auckland

Overall, my experience fell short of expectations. While I understand that requests such as a one-hour late checkout are subject to occupancy, my interaction with reception lacked warmth, empathy, and a guest-focused approach. I stayed here for an executive business trip, paying close to NZD 6,000 for four nights — this was not what I signed up for and did not feel like value for money. The rooms are very poorly soundproofed, to the point where conversations from neighbouring rooms were clearly audible over the course of my stay. I also kept the “Please clean my room” sign displayed throughout my stay, yet housekeeping availability was inconsistent, with limited cleaning hours communicated on several days. This often meant either leaving my room for extended periods or eventually placing the “Do Not Disturb” sign back on as I was tired waiting around in the afternoon for them to triage. Having stayed at many hotels globally, including numerous Marriott properties, this hotel did not deliver a five-star or luxury experience for me. Long queues at reception, slow bar service, not much focus on the guest experience whatsoever and interiors that feel dated all contributed to the overall impression. At best, the experience felt more in line with a three-star property.

Wow, was the first impression upon walking into the JW Marriott Auckland's one-bed corner suite, which I am grateful for being able to redeem my nightly upgrade award. The room was festively decorated in a Christmas theme with a 6+ meter lighted Christmas tree. The bedroom was divided from the living/dining room by a hallway, allowing for a separation of early peaceful rest and late-nighters. The full-sized dining table encouraged us to order room service, which was delicious, particularly the local mussels and shrimp caesar salad. Check-in was friendly and professional (sorry, I did not get the kind lady's name). Concierge and the lounge staff were on-point and proactively assisting guests. For platinum+, the lounge, which included an early evening reception, was stocked with local wines, beers and light appetizers. Breakfast was served at their Trivet restaurant, which included a full buffet and omelets/eggs made-to-order. Summary: A near-perfect stay, I would definitely stay here again, even without a suite upgrade. The location is in close walking distance of the waterfront, shopping areas and business district.

The property has been renovated and is quite nice. Our room was clean and comfortable. Service in the executive lounge was attentive. The hotel appears to be poorly managed. There were no bellmen to assist us when we arrived. Upon check in, we were told our bags would be brought up to our room. 2 hours later, no luggage. I called reception several times but the call was never answered. We finally went back to the lobby and collected the suitcases ourselves. The next morning, I called to have laundry picked up. Again, no answer. I left a voicemail to collect our laundry but no one ever came. Today was the worst though. I asked the front desk to give me 2 tens for a twenty to tip housekeeping. I was directed to a convenience store to get change. I will be cancelling my reservation in Melbourne with another Bonvoy property and switch to IHG.

A very well located hotel. We had very good room on floor 10. On same floor is a nice pool All areas of hotel were clean and well maintained. Some breakfasts were very busy and staff appeared stretched to cope Staff generally were friendly and helpful but those in newly reopened executive lounge really standout for exceptional service. Would recommend hotel for Auckland stay

We stayed here for two nights during our stay in Auckland. The hotel is stunning post renovation. The lobby, lounge and breakfast area are all excellent. The room quality was top notch and we look forward to staying here during our next visit to Auckland. We are fully confident this hotel will become one of the top ranked hotels in Auckland once the review count increases accordingly.
