As special as this hotle is, it's under a major renovation. We were woke up at 6 am by construction. No where on the website when we booked did it say anything about construction and half the lobby being blocked off.

We chose this hotel because the location was good for the places we were visiting. It was surprising to find that the hotel is under construction which was not what we expected prior to our arrival. Areas of the hotel were closed and walking to our room was awkward. We had to take two elevators or stairs to the mezzanine and elevator to our floor. We had to walk through a very cavernous mezzanine where they have banquets but there was no place to sit in that area, just a huge expanse. We were traveling with another couple and the only place to visit was in the lobby area which was surrounded by drapes covering the construction. The furnishings were worn out and sitting in that area was at times cold because the entrance door stays open sometimes. It could be nice if they set up and little seating/lounge area on the Mezzanine level to be away from the cold lobby during construction. The decor of the public areas is very dated/historic and was depressing for us to look at. That might just be our taste. We did enjoy our room which was nicely furnished and comfortable. We liked that they had a complimentary Nespresso coffee maker in the room and the bath towels were great. We were disappointed that there was not a Smart TV to be able to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime. Many hotels are now offering that and it is really nice. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating.

Had a good time visiting a wonderful hotel. The Valets were very courteous and helpful. Check-in was personable and friendly Dinner at the bar was good, didn't get a couple ofnthings we ordered, but management took care of it when we brought it to their attention. Breakfast was good but very pricey. Room was wonderful, you donget road noise, but we were facing the street, 11th floor. Checkout was nice, but front desk has no chamge for the valets, tips. Odd.

The Driskell is beautiful even before the wonderful Christmas Decor. .. but the Christmas tree set the atmosphere for a luxurious getaway. My husband and I took a weekend to get away and spend some time downtown Austin. The Driskell didn't disappoint. All the room amenities were top notch and the bed was so very comfortable. The TV was huge and had great wifi. We were delighted with our stay!

The room I was given was right next to the elevator bank. I didn’t think that would be an issue but there were carts going in and out of the elevator and employee hallway next to my room all night. My room was only next to one other room and the that room partied and talked all evening. TV blaring and all. I stayed at the hotel for only one night and since I wasn’t able to sleep I would give it a 1 star review. I understand the hotel is older and charming but I can’t imagine ever returning after that experience. Hotels should be able to provide a comfortable room for rest. If that can’t be accomplished, it’s a no from me.
