Wait until construction is completed before staying here. Too many other options nearby at this price point. Should be complete by Christmas.

Why charge so much for a hotel under renovation?
Hotel was undergoing renovation and many of the design/architectural features i wanted to see in the interior were draped in plastic.

A great old hotel in a declining city.
A nice old property that is currently undergoing a remodeling. That said, the staff works around the construction pretty well and the service and cleanliness are top shelf. The sixth street location is a drawback unless you enjoy a stampede's of want-to-be hipsters on electric scooters, the stench of yesterday's booze, and lots of homeless people asking for money and the related 24/7 EMS and police attention that goes with the city pretending to deal with the problem. Next time, I'll stay off of sixth and visit the Driskill for a drink. Austin needs to give up on the "Keep Austin Weird" and fix the homeless problem or settle for a second rate New Orleans/Bourbon Street vibe.

Nice older hotel
This hotel is in a great location and the staff was exceptional. Unfortunately the hotel is undergoing renovation (which it needs) and so the lobby is not too great. Parts of the hotel are fine. Our room was very satisfactory although the counter space in the bathroom was lacking. The 1886 cafe in the hotel was excellent. I would stay here again but if you stay now just be aware there will be construction going on. The construction noise was minimal and did not affect our stay.

Only if my company was paying
I am glad I have a lot of energy because I did as much walking in the hotel as I did in Austin. That is such an but it was easier to walk up to the second floor then take an elevator and then have to go to another elevator. I stayed at the because a friend was there for a conference and though it was really historic it was not the kind of historic that I connect with since I'm Black. I was comfortable and the room certainly gave that elegant feel but I just don't want to pay that much money for a hotel room unless it has indoor amenities that would keep me there. The bathroom was big which was nice because in less expensive places they tiny. However, that was not enough.
