Built in 1886 as the showplace of a cattle baron, The Driskill remains a landmark of legendary Texas hospitality. Located in downtown Austin, The Driskill is convenient to all that the city has to offer, including the convention center, opera, symphony, fine dining and shopping. Known as the "live music capital of the world," Austin is home to more than 100 music venues, many within walking distance.

We booked this hotel for a family vacation last week. The location is great. The hotel itself for an Unbound Collection was very disappointing. Most of the hotel was under construction which provided limited access. The rooms are TINY and the bathrooms even smaller. Not even a sink area big enough to do your hair and makeup. Even though we were on floor 11, there is absolutely NO view from this hotel, so dont expect one. The best part of this hotel is a very nice bar, but even the bar is not very well stocked. For the money these rooms cost, I will stay somewhere else in the neighborhood next time in Austin.

We had some trepidation after reading some reviews. The great historic hotel is being preserved. Staff was exemplary. Room was very nice, clean, and functional. It took all weekend to fully grasp the scope of this hotel and its role in Texas history.

Classic hotel that is undergoing a facelift, but the work so far has been magnificent. The interior is classy without feeling uncomfortable. The rooms have extremely high ceilings which makes the rooms feel grand. We booked our room on Hyatt points and found the room to be spotless and we were surprised that simple things like bottled water, coffee and tea were provided for free. The room refrigerator and table were chock full of drinks for a fee, which actually left little room in the fridge for us to put in our personal items. I imagine that we could have asked someone to empty the fridge, but we didn't. Noise from the street was minimal and we got decent sleep for our two nights there. I was a bit hesitant about staying at a historic hotel because that sometimes means that things are old. Definitely not the case at the Driskill. This is downtown, so there are lots of interesting characters around. There are also a lot of people going about their regular business, so while we didn't feel unsafe, it is unpleasant to be approached for money. This happens in any area with a lot of street folks. No self parking available, but the valet service was great. We could request our vehicle via text and our vehicle was up front before we got to the lobby. You can even tip the valet staff through by texting. I highly recommend the Driskill.

The website should make it easier to see that there is a lot of construction going on. Restaurants and bar areas closed down, lots of noise and dust with tile and more being removed. Very disappointed .

The hotel was under construction so spoilt the whole vibe. Won't go back overpriced for what it is. Honestly same standard as a Hampton Inn.
