Hotel Magdalena is a hotel project from Austin’s acclaimed Bunkhouse in collaboration with renowned architecture firm Lake | Flato, located on Music Lane in the popular South Congress neighborhood of Austin. At 89 rooms, it is Bunkhouse’s largest hotel to date, and features four new, but distinct, buildings connected by exposed elevated walkways and courtyards, creating a treehouse feel inside the grounds. The property sits at varying elevations, an homage to the slopes of Barton Springs, and the lush grounds are planted with native Texas species including Bigtooth Maples, Redbuds, Meyer Lemon Trees, Yaupon Holly, and Little Gem Magnolia.

Booked a quick one-night getaway to visit friends while my parents watched our 4-month-old. Pros are that the hotel is beautiful, quiet (especially considering proximity to SoCo) and I liked that even the basic room had a living space. Cons: I was on the first floor where the windows look directly out into the sidewalk/pool area, so I had to keep the shades down for privacy. The shades also aren't blackout so it was bright in the morning. I booked with Capital One, which was supposed to include a $50 credit, but it wasn't mentioned when I checked in. I had to ask for them to apply it when I checked out. Not a huge deal but a little disappointing since they're supposed to be a Premium Stay partner. My biggest gripe was the water/ice situation. I needed it to ice down breast milk, so time was of the essence). I asked the front desk in person (who was kind of weird about it lol) and again over the phone (sounded like a different woman, might nicer) for ice. When it never showed, I had to go down to the restaurant to get my own. When water was also out in the valet lobby, I had to go back to the restaurant to fill my water bottle as well. Upside was restaurant staff were super nice and helpful.

An interesting hotel and good to look at but style over substance. Plug points were not plentiful. Basin mirror too far away. Room cleaning cursory and carried out late in the day.

Just off the hustle and bustle of South Congress Ave sits the lovely Hotel Magdalena, a true oasis in the middle of the city. With fabulous outdoor space and a pool that mimics Barton Springs layout, you can relax in the sun or shade, at the pool, the delicious Summer House restaurant or on the lawn. Rooms surround the outdoor space with lovely interior courtyard or city views. The rooms are modern chic, each featuring a different color tile for a pop of fun. We enjoyed staying in a suite this weekend while visiting to plan our daughter’s wedding to be held here later this year. The attentive management welcomed us warmly, have answered every question and seem as excited as we are about our celebration. Having considered other venues, I can tell you this team is focused on exemplary execution and customer service. What a special spot in downtown Austin. Can’t wait to return for the big day.

Great hotel with a great vibe. Hotel restaurant is really good. Rooms are comfortable. Housekeeping attention to detail sometimes a little lacking.

Stayed here for a quick overnight visit. Great location just off of South Congress but suprisingly quiet. All the staff was wonderful, they gave us some awesome recommendations and provided us with a fan for some white noise. The room immaculate with a separate living area and screened in porch.
