I booked the stay at W Austin with full knowledge of construction happening at the moment but never expected my stay to be so bad! The construction took out pretty much all dining options and every restaurant/coffee shop is consolidated into one on 2nd floor. The choices on the menu are very limited and even then, they do not make food that is on the menu! There are 4-5 items for the breakfast and chef had to come out twice to apologize for lack of cooking ingredients (I am not kidding). I tried in-room dining late evening - it was overpriced and the food was dry and un-savory. There are limited places you can go in the hotel (spa, pool, gym) and all are understaffed and poorly maintained. To be fair, front desk staff was very helpful and upgraded the room upon request. I personally would advise to stay away from W Austin and book somewhere else (I stayed at Fairmont two years ago which is similarly priced, same neighborhood but way more upscale and better value for money spent).

Anybody booking right now should know there is no lobby, nobody helping with bags from the huge construction zone in the street… you enter through a weird setup through a bunch of dark hallways until you get to the makeshift checkin area. The room upgrade (for those of you expecting one based on Marriott status) is to something that is definitely NOT spectacular as it is called and generally the initial experience is staff that are unfriendly, probably because people like me are so shocked at the mess when they check in. None of this is described on website or when you book in a way that would convey how truly “under construction” they are…

Although it would have been nice to have been notified that the hotel is under renovation - hence a lot of the amenities not available or not up to the W experience - after providing this feedback to the manager Jordan Pastoor, she was very empathetic and apologetic, determined to help us still enjoy our experience. She went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and appreciated with some goodies and gifts to make our stay more enjoyable. It is this kind of customer service that keeps me going back to W hotels.

My daughter and I enjoy going to Austin for the Statesman Cap 10K and, even though it’s a splurge, we love staying at the W Austin because not only is it a great location, but we choose the W over others because we love the bar areas in the hotel. We booked online through our bank and didn’t go to their website, so we weren’t aware that they were closed for renovations and there was only a temporary bar set up. The entry into the hotel lobby changed and was difficult to get to and there was no reduction in room rate, which was $790 per night for a very basic 2 queen bed room, but also $64 parking fee!

Hotel is undergoing renovations, so things were a bit jumbled. Nice service, though, and the rooms are very nice. I would return but only after the renovations are complete. Valet parking is very expensive, and the breakfast service was a bit lacking.
