Reviews for Kupu Kupu Barong

Great views, old property and disappointing service.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 21 hours ago

We stayed in a River Front Pool villa, and the views were spectacular. Sadly, the view was the only positive aspect of our stay. The property has been open for nearly 37 years which is quite evident with the extremely creaky floorboards, and several other aspects. The room was very dull and outdated - in dire need of renovation, and overall property looks tired. We did not even have a convenient way to charge our phones near the bed. Breakfast was included however, the spread was not great - dishes were more Indian rather than international. The so-called ‘butler service’ should really be renamed as ‘buggy service’. Neither of our ‘butlers’ ever proactively checked on us or provided any assistance with anything, or gave us suggestions with activities. We did not officially know who our butlers were as they did change during the stay and we did not know whom to reach out to. Only one of the butlers shared their WhatsApp contact however was not responsive - others did not offer any way to reach them. Service was extremely disappointing. We had an excursion included in our package, which we wanted to book in the afternoon - the staff didn’t provide any assistance and prior to check out, no one asked why it wasn’t booked either. The staff seemed quite ignorant despite having our information on file, and were quick to assume our race/religion based solely off the color of our skin. The racial profiling unfortunately left a bad taste in our mouths as we faced few instances of this, and it was disheartening to see how much more attentive and welcoming they were to European guests. We also noticed that staff didn’t offer to find out information when asked about certain things - they would instead inform us to check with another staff rather than proactively gathering information. When we highlighted certain things such as leaky faucet and not having hot water for our entire stay, it was not fixed proactively. The overall value for money fell far short of expectations despite having paid a significant amount of money. While the natural setting and views were breathtaking, the service & upkeep was underwhelming. Sadly, we cannot recommend this property and would not consider returning.

Gorgeous Villas highly recommend

Amazing stay, I never want to leave. Exceptional friendly service all around. Beautiful views. Very clean. Heavenly atmosphere. The villas are so cool and to have a personal infinity pool with a champagne floating breakfast was a memory I won’t forget.
