Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok

Having stayed at this hotel over three times ( 4th visit) I have noticed changes. Firstly, do not book into the Kruntherp Wing. The rooms are now very dated and are a disappointment if you are a seasoned traveler. The hotel is not so cheap now and has a 4.7 rating but we had to move to the Shangri Buiding to get value. The staff and service is outstanding but the little extras that made it special have gone. The extra towels, toiletries, stationary, smoke fish and fresh meats at breakfast. They have also stopped their complimentary boat that went up and down the river. Don’t get me wrong, a great hotel but has just changed as every thing over time.

We splurged and booked river facing rooms with balconies - and wow - so glad we did. What a treat to sit on the balconies and watch life go by. Truth be told, we didn't leave the property for two days. The Bangkok heat got the best of us - It was such a beautiful environment, delicious food, and the incredible Thai hospitality - there was no need to leave. We have had the privilege to visit Bangkok several times now - this was by far the best hotel we have stayed.

Stayed three nights in the Krungthep Wing of the property. I liked this wing because it felt more private and exclusive than the main wing. It was a 10 minute walk to breakfast but other than that felt fine. Right next door to the ferries that I used 2 of the 3 days. Property shows signs of it's age in the bathroom shower and carpet in the bedroom. Condition of the balconies surprised me. All staff were amazing. I checked in at noon, and was given a room within a half hour. There is a Topps supermarket within 5 minutes walk. For dinner, it was a short walk to Palate Bar, Mazzaro and Nalin Kitchen. Nalin was the cheapest and the best.

We keep returning to the Shangri- La on our visits to Bangkok because it offers the best location, for the best price and an understated but always effective way of looking after their guests. This time we had our wedding anniversary dinner sitting outside in the Salathip restaurant. A truly wonderful experience

Had an fantastic stay. We loved staying in the luxurious horizon club. The room was nice with a great view of the river. The transfer from and to the airport was good to with a nice driver. The swimming pool was awesome and never felt too crowded. Breakfast is good too with a view in the river. The employees were also very friendly. The only one too improve was we didn’t get a welcome letter or something else although it was our 4th stay here. All in all it was a fantastic stay. We will definitely be back!
