Board a private speedboat bound for The Siam Hotel at Saphan Taksin central pier and leave Bangkok’s chaos behind. This urban retreat, part of the Legend collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, is a one-of-a-kind marriage of traditional Thai culture and delicious Art Deco ornamentation designed by “Architectural Digest’s Top 100” recipient Bill Bensley and overseen by Krissada Sukosol Clapp, a Thai pop singer and actor who won the country’s equivalent of a Best Actor Oscar. The resort sits on three acres of riverfront land in the royal Dusit district and draws inspiration from Paris’s Musée d’Orsay. Guests are blanketed in tranquility in oversized suites teeming with antiques.

It’s that southeast Asia of dreams, lush and opulent not because it’s chasing the future, but because it’s inescapably itself. Like Iwan Fals showing up to play a garden concert, like your new best clubbing friend turning out to be a classically trained Khom actor on a random rooftop dawn. The past and present come together to present an alluring possibility for hospitality and Bangkok at The Siam, where everyone knows each other by name, the pillows are plenty and make excellent forts, you can see a side of Bangkok on the winding streets outside that feels like a village you remember but long thought disappeared, and, through it, dream a future where nothing is lost. Of course, there are all the creature comforts. And, incredibly, there is warmth, imagination, story, and soul. Thank you to the incomparable team. Lucky us.

This hotel was booked for us as part of a Kensington Tour and we could not have been happier with our stay. Our room was huge—bathroom was gigantic—and the furnishings were like nothing we have experienced at other hotels. The hotel itself has a museum-like quality and we enjoyed poking around. We enjoyed our several breakfasts, one lunch, and one dinner at the onsite restaurant, close to the river. Staff—including GM Nick—were attentive and friendly. For a small boutique hotel, the property was quite large and felt secluded right in the city. No complaints from us!

At first you are a bit overwhelmed with the look of the hotel. Lovely lobby. Interesting atrium. But then you realize how very cold it all is. Antiques are lovely but didn't help with the "museum feel" of the place. Long walks from the rooms to the pool and restaurant. A bar that closes at 6:00 does nothing to help the fact that the life of the city is very far away. The hotel is in a nowheresville neighborhood with only a hospital compound across the street. The pool is lovely EXCEPT when you try to get in AND out!. Very very difficult for anyone! My biggest complaint is the cost of a room with no window. (over $700!). So very disappointing. I am to blame for the the city mis-location. The Siam is to blame for everything else.

We spent two nights in a very comfortable Garden Suite room. The hotel is a dream for anyone interested in antiques ! The room was very well equipped and comfortable and clean and the food was excellent. We were very well looked after by Takob and Eve in the restaurant. Nawee, the hotel Manager was charming and so helpful. We went out all day visiting everything we could so there was no time for any spa treatments.

The location of this hotel is perfect - not too far away from the centre, but far enough away for peace and quiet. It’s a little Oasis by the riverside. The hotel’s shuttle boat is a good idea and a very relaxing way to get into the centre. The design of the hotel is fantastic, with lots of interesting art work and artefacts on display. The pool, by the riverside is stunning. We didn’t try the spa, but it looked lovely. We ate at the restaurant several times. Breakfast was included and was delicious, but we also ate lunch there twice and dinner once. We highly recommend the food and service. The staff were all exemplary and so friendly and helpful. A special thank you to our Butler Zul, who was always on hand to help with any questions we had. Also a big thank you to Nick, the GM, who is excellent. 🙏🙏
