I just arrived at the hotel and took a moment to have two lovely cappuccinos at Thimian shop. They were a brilliant start of this stay. Thank you, Sri! You made very tasty coffees! And the view is amazing as well.

Who knew you could stay in a Bangkok hotel and feel like you’re in a lush, green, rural garden or plantation or jungle somewhere hundreds of miles from civilization? The Sukhothai recreates such a sensation. It’s a jaw-dropping property with so much to offer in such a chill, tranquil, unpretentious environment. - Location: While it’d be hard to believe, the hotel is in the heart of southeast-central Bangkok, close to Lumphini Park and its metro station. It occupies a vast swath of land sandwiched between commercial and residential zoning, spread out far enough to make it serene but not too far to make it feel like a resort. Spacious but not sprawling. - Atmosphere: It oozes opulence and refined luxury. The luxury exists not to make a statement, but almost like it’s nothing. It’s effortless. You get out of your taxi or Grab and hear the faint strums of a khene, Thailand’s national instrument, and the sound deepens and amplifies as you walk nearer and nearer to the open doors to the lobby. The floors are so shiny and clean you could practically lick them (but I don’t recommend doing so), and flower decorations arranged on a central table in the lobby tease the presence of the courtyard garden you’ll see next. The light fixtures elevate feelings of excitement and intrigue, almost as though they’re telling you that you’ve stepped into an artistic performance and more is to come. The long, almost liminal corridor that connects the central lobby to the breakfast restaurant, bar, and other amenities is cozy and attractive, and what lies at the hallway’s end is the crown jewel: the hotel’s lily pond and garden. It’s so peaceful that you can’t hear any city noise even if you tried. You’ll see and hear the birds, enjoy the rustle of an evening breeze, and look up to watch the sun rise and set. It’s sobering. You won’t want to leave. - Service: Thai hospitality is arguably a blend of Japanese politeness mixed with a tamed version of American outgoingness, and here, that shone brightly. Every member of staff brought joy and reassurance to me, and I would assume all my fellow guests. A special shoutout to Kay and Film for their generous hospitality, particularly for letting me store my electric wheelchair in the hotel luggage storage for a few days while I took a side trip to Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. They accommodated this request, no questions asked. - Room: Most, if not all, guest rooms face the courtyard, ensuring a silent urban sojourn that’s practically unnatural. You might label some aspects of the room as “aging,” but there’s a distinction between “dated” and “classic” or “historic,” and this hotel is not a contemporary new-build. There’s a deep, unique history to the design and construction of the Sukhothai, and the rooms reflect this by featuring Thai decor, hues, and surface materials. Yet despite those, there were surprising modern conveniences, significantly of note being a nice bidet in the bathroom. As is typical nowadays in Asia, technology is all over the room, such as light controls, do-not-disturb, etc. It’s a fascinating amalgamation of traditional and state-of-the-art. I slept so comfortably in my quarters, and like the courtyard vibe, I didn’t want to leave my bed! - Amenities: At the Sukhothai, there’s a sweet outdoor pool with an attached restaurant, multiple other restaurants including a breakfast buffet space that’s incredible, a spa, an ATM, and a small shop. One truly one-of-a-kind amenity, or rather a weekly event exclusive to this place, is a CHOCOLATE BAR on Saturday afternoons adjacent to the breakfast buffet area. Like a mini buffet of chocolate goodies, plus a huge chocolate fountain! I was so bummed to miss it, and I could’ve easily checked it out since I had arrived by then, but I falsely assumed it happened on Sundays too, so I chose to relax in my room instead! Now I know, and now you know too. - Value: I’m thrilled the Sukhothai is part of SLH, which is now part of the Hilton portfolio, so I could book direct and receive elite benefits here. That said, rates are not cheap. I splurged here a lot more than I initially planned for my Asia trip as a whole (my frontal lobe isn’t quite developed yet!), and the price I paid for two nights was about 700 USD. Way more expensive than I would normally go for, but honestly, in this case, WORTH IT. Truly spectacular and above and beyond Thai service and unique accommodations shouldn’t come cheap, even if it may in other places around Bangkok. The Sukhothai will always hold beautiful memories for me. I will be back!

It was our first time staying in this hotel. The moment we walked in we were welcomed and greeted with a big smile from the staff up to the reception. The check-in process was easy with a welcome drink. The hotel lobby is nice which feels like a sanctuary. The hotel room was good and very comfortable. It has all the things you need. The view is nice you can see the greenery atmosphere with the lotus flowers. Their pool area was relaxing, the gym equipment is amazing and it’s not crowded at all. The buffet breakfast was really good. It has a variety of food you can enjoy. It was a fantastic stay overall. I feel like I’m at home. I feel at peace sleeping at night as I can’t hear any noise outside. We will definitely comeback soon.
