The Sukhothai Bangkok

Absolutely heavenly! Tucked down a long, tree-lined driveway and away from the busy, noisy road, what a delight to be able to return from the day exploring Bangkok and find yourself in this haven. The staff at this hotel are exceptionally professional, friendly, thoughtful, and an absolute pleasure. The architecture marries the flora of outdoors with calming interiors: it seems everywhere you look there is of a body of water blanketed in blooming water lilies. The spa is exceptional in every way. The gym offers everything you could hope for, and the salt water swimming pool is a dream! We stayed in both a regular room and a few weeks later, en route home, stopped again and had an executive suite. Both rooms were spacious and extraordinarily comfortable. They were also very quiet (sound proof) and extremely clean. One of the exceptional features of our stay is the breakfast offered at the Sukhothai. The restaurant is in a beautiful, airy space with high ceilings and glass walls overlooking an expansive water feature, and the buffet selection must be one of the most varied and delicious anywhere in the world. The variety, freshness and aesthetic of the presentation are remarkable: eating there is like participating in some gorgeous art work! Everything from shumai and freshly prepared noodle dishes from all different Asian cuisines, to roasted coconuts sliced open before your eyes, to European bakery style buffet, every kind of fruit and cheese you could imagine, even a bamboo and charcoal sorbet palate cleanser, and so much more than I could capture here. One night we sat on the covered verandah of the Zuk bar, which overhangs another vast reservoir covered with blooming water lilies, and had drinks and light dinner sitting out there, including the mandatory mango & sticky rice: the food and the atmosphere and the service were all sublime, just perfect. I am so happy that I booked here. It is absolutely worth the price, and they seem to often have specials (I got 3 nights for price of 2, including the lavish breakfast) so look out for those deals. Finally, the location is excellent, only a few minutes walk from the metro. We took the metro from the airport, which was great fun and easy enough, clean and safe and interesting and cost about US $1. We avoided 2 hrs stuck in traffic and saved a bundle by taking the metro. We also used the metro to get all around town. So highly recommend the location.

In the middle of Bangkok, 20 to 30 minutes away from most tourist spots & the Maddening Malls, lies this quietly opulent 5 star which is a low rise property surrounded by trees and manicured lawns. There are two strikingly beautiful old style Thai buildings, one is a Michelin starred Thai restaurant & the other a Spa. If you want to stay at this hotel, please find time to walk the grounds & to cock your snoot at all the highrises around you. It will be an injustice to not enjoy a meal at the restaurant & a superb massage in a setting that will transport you to an altogether different time & place. The service is personal, the facilities are top class & the food is divine but beyond all else, the luxury here is calming space. So if you're the type who'd like to get into the hustle & bustle of Bangkok but retreat into a cucoon of peace, quiet & calm, this is your place.

We was taken by a tuk tuk to look around this jeweller's...the shop was very secure with absolutely beautiful items. I was treated respectfully and although their sales lady wanted a sale at the end of the day I have the choice to walk away. Was a very high class setup and I bought sapphire earrings at 46500 BAHT. On returning to the UK I went to get them valued and was pleased to get a valuation of £600 more than I paid. Despite reading some poor reviews I found the company reputable and responsive to a recent email.
