Grand Hotel Central Barcelona

We spent 2 nights at the Grand Central Hotel and it was pleasant enough. Reception staff were very obliging which is more than I can say for the tallish waiter with a beard in ‘Can Bo’ restaurant who I found to be abrupt and dismissive, not an attitude I would expect from a 5* hotel. We had a Classic room on the top floor which was very well cleaned but bland and lacked some practicalities. My pet hate, a climb over bath rather than a walk in shower didn’t help but the towels were large and fluffy. The glass sliding door to the bathroom meant that if using the toilet in the night the whole bedroom was illuminated. Net curtains at the window rather than proper curtains also let in light which must be a real pain in the height of summer but a light on the exterior window cill shining into the room didn’t help either. The bed was comfortable and the room had a coffee machine and kettle and the safe worked fine. We did find the room a little claustrophobic with a long corridor (Room 703). Breakfasts were fine with a good selection and we ate in ‘Can Bo’ on our second night where the food was good, our waiter Andreas was helpful and very pleasant speaking excellent English which helped with wine choice. The location of the hotel is fine and the Born district is pleasant to walk around and we found an excellent restaurant ‘Arcano’ a 2 minutes’ walk from the hotel but you need to book in advance. All in all it was pleasant stay but we were probably spoilt by our outstanding stay at a true 5* hotel in Rome which probably coloured our view of the Grand. Central!

I came for business and chose this hotel because of the location. The service was very good. It was quiet. The room are recently refurbished and very nicely appointed but are compact (this is the trade off given the location). The food is very good and I ate in the hotel restaurant and also the terrace bar. The only negative to me was that there was no desk in the room, so I used the terrace bar to work when I needed to - good view! Rooms tidy and clean. I will come back again.

Grand Hotel Central was our home away from home for the week. It was an all around delightful experience. Location was perfect in the Gothic Quarter and centrally located near the Barcelona Cathedral, La Rambla, the sea, Picasso Museum and the heart of the Gothic Quarter. It was an excellent vibe in the area. The rooms were spacious by European standards. Comfy bed with lots of pillows, perfect A/C system, great layout with the bathroom with a boutique aesthetics. Nice little touches with waters and chocolates every night upon returning to our room. The restaurants at the hotel were delicious with CanBo for tapas and then the rooftop for drinks and a dynamite view of the city. They even put on a Halloween celebration for guests on October 31st partnering with Patron that evening g with a solid DJ up there. Gym was clean and spacious with some decent equipment. Concierge was very helpful getting tickets for La Sagrada and helping with flight questions. Staff was very attentive and friendly with Franco, Sharon and the whole crew. We felt so welcomed by them every time we came and went by the front desk. There were also neat little things at the hotel such as an old library landmark and a downstairs break at area on the bottom floor. We consider ourselves lucky to have found this hotel and would not stay anywhere else when we go back.

Very nice room and amenities. excellent service and excellent breakfast buffet. very good location, hotel is somewhat behind the Sagrada. I would definitely stay there on my next trip.

We stayed 3 nights (weekday stay). Hotel is in an excellent location (Gothic Quarter) - great spot for first-time Barcelona visitors. We walked everywhere from here - El Born (5 min), Barcelona Cathedral (across the street), Picasso Museum (5 min), La Rambla (10-15 min), Eixample (15 min), Casa Batllo (20 min), Sagrada Familiar (35 min). Our queen room was clean with a simple yet cozy design. I appreciate the wood floors with an area rug under the bed - made the room feel much cleaner. Spacious bathroom. The bathtub has a glass door that swings but does not create a tight enough seal when using the shower. So, the floor by the tub got quite wet (we resolved the issue by sticking a small towel underneath it to make sure the glass panel was inside the tub just enough for the water to run down the panel and into the tub). Our room included breakfast - the buffet had a lot of options. A few items changed from day to day. Service from the front desk to breakfast to the doormen was excellent. Everyone was pleasant, friendly and helpful. Be sure to enjoy their rooftop space and check out the old library. I definitely recommend the Grand Hotel Central!
