Hotel Gran Derby Suite

This is a small hotel that is trying to be a combo of boutique and luxury, and frankly it fails at both. On it's face it was a very clean, chic property, that looked impressive but that's where it ended. The front desk staff were cordial but often appeared disinterested when they croaked out the obligatory "bon dia" or "hola." The room was large by city standards, which was a plus, but it was incredibly dark (even with all of the lights on) and hot and it felt like being in a cave. The bathroom was large and clean with a double sink, but there were no washcloths. The bed was small for a double/queen, and very low to the ground. The nightstands were hunks of wood. Maybe esthetically pleasing but useless. There was a minibar, but a refrigerator would've been more useful. The window faced a small courtyard which was more like a glorified elevator shaft. If you were on a higher floor maybe you saw sunlight, but on the 1st floor it remained dark. Our only view was directly into the room on the other side. The bathroom and closet doors were sliders like barn doors and as a result we heard the doors open and close in the room above us at all hours. The AC was turned off in the building for the "winter" (it was 65-70 degrees out, what winter?) and there was zero airflow from the window. Miserable. Even with the tower fan that they gave us, sleep was elusive. The neighborhood was fine but if you want to use the metro you have quite a walk ahead of you. I was very disappointed in this hotel, though ymmv.

The room looked quite dated and the furniture within had obviously seen better days. Checkin was fine and an upgrade was provided as a Hilton member. The breakfast area was quite small, located in the basement with a small selection of options. There was an annoying intermittent noise in the room through the night and not having the energy to go to the front desk and potentially further ruin the night’s not so smooth sleep, I didn’t bother with reception. My only other interaction with reception was when checking out and two members of staff were taking a lengthy time to somehow deal with a difference in the charges to a guests card compared to the initial quoted price. Reasonable good location as good for public transport, but so are many other hotels in Barcelona. I probably won’t return here

Wonderful stay and gorgeous room! Easy check in and excellent service from staff. Great location and easy to walk to all tourist attractions. We had a wonderful time and would love to return!

Great room and very helpful staff! We loved the location, nice neighborhood to walk around and not to far to visit sites. I would like to mention Sara, she was so helpful in getting our luggage up! My Hilton status changed overnight, she updated everything for me. She goes out of her way to help!

We had a lovely 1 night stay here prior to our cruise. The staff was so friendly, helpful and kind. The breakfast ladies were AMAZING!! The freshly sliced meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables were fantastic!! Thank you Tatis and Janis for our wonderful breakfast and the service you provided!!!
