Hotel Sofia

Everything looks very nice and new and maybe therein lies the issue, lots of smaller teething problems. The TV does not work (not setup properly), the phone is faulty and the charging station did not work either. We got charged twice the deposit when checking in, etc etc. Things that might get sorted out with time and better staff training. The Peruvian restsurant gets full marks though. The spa is nice but at 40 EURs per person per visit its hardly worth it. Location is not great unless you are playing at the Camp Nou the next day. Reception staff needs to be better trained in dealing with issues. We had very loud music two nights in a row from the neighbouring room at 23:30, was not dealt with in a timely manner. So all in all, beautiful on the facade but staff, policies and equipment lets the place down.

Easily one of the best Hotels to stay in Europe, great location, amazing staff and beautiful restaurants. The room was exactly as it looked on pictures, cozy and clean.

I recently stated with my partner to celebrate our seventh wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, it was not a five star experience and the hotel did not live up to our expectations. Firstly, the hotel itself is really lovely and incredibly modern. The lifts are brilliant to use and we were really touched by the personal acknowledgement of our anniversary, with the beautiful macaroons and mimosas delivered to us at breakfast one morning. This was a very nice addition and it was really appreciated. There were quite a few disappointments at the hotel which we found while staying there. 1. Housekeeping. Housekeeping was really sporadic and we were constantly having our door knocked on in the early hours of the day before we’ve gone down for breakfast. This is fine but slightly irritating. The biggest issue for us was that member of housekeeping walked into our room completely unannounced without knocking. We were incredibly shocked that this happened as it is a complete invasion of privacy. Our room has already been cleaned for the day and there was no need for someone to be coming in our room. Before I could reach the member of staff, they had vanished. We had no explanation or apology for this incident. I felt really on edge and uncomfortable for the rest of the holiday in case this happened again. 2. Spa. The use of the spa is not included in the stay. This is the first time I’ve ever encountered this staying in a five star hotel, or most hotels in general. It is €40 per person, per use, just to use the spa pool area alone. I find this absolutely ridiculous that you are charged to use a pool. This is not stated on their website and I find it very deceiving that you are only told this once you try to use the spa. I was told that it is written on the spa website, however why would people look at this when booking a hotel? It should be written clearly on the hotel website that this is an extra charge. The usual pool was closed due to seasonal changes however no alternative option was provided. 3. Not 5 star standard. There were no welcome drinks or personal welcomes when checking. It was very rushed and didn’t feel very welcoming when we arrived nor whilst we were staying there. During our stay, we were not greeted when we left/arrived reception and no one checked how our stay was. This is very unusual for a 5 star hotel. We constantly had letters put under our door for about three days telling us to go down to reception for some unknown reason. It turned out that we had a charge in our room that needed to be paid. This is a very odd way of communicating with hotel guests. Face-to-face communication in reception would be much more personalised and professional. 4. Breakfast. Again there is a surcharge for ordering personalised orders breakfasts, another way that the Hotel seems to be making money out of guests. For example, you can collect an omelette off the buffet free of charge however if you want to add onions to it, it will be at least €8. I’ve never known a five star hotel charge guests for made to order egg dishes. The service is also quite slow when you want to order coffees, and the food is quite average and lukewarm at best. The staff were really friendly and most of the time very accommodating. 4. Leña Restaurant. The food was SO amazing however the service was absolutely abysmal. The lady on the desk was so unhelpful and unfriendly. The whole experience was ruined by the awful, rude and very slow service during the evening. We really had high hopes for this hotel but it was a huge disappointment.

I stayed at this hotel in the summer of 2025 for three days with my family. My ten-year-old son loved it so much that we decided to return to celebrate Christmas and his birthday. On this occasion, we stayed for ten days, and we truly have nothing to complain about. Unfortunately, the weather was quite unfavorable, with continuous rain for seven days. However, this gave us the opportunity to explore the surrounding area, which proved to be well worth it. There are many excellent dining options within walking distance, including sushi, Chinese noodle restaurants, Indian cuisine, and traditional Spanish food. All of them were of very high quality. The hotel staff were exceptionally thoughtful and remembered my son’s birthday, surprising us with a cake to celebrate the occasion. On Christmas Eve, they also prepared letters for my children to write to Santa. Santa even made a special appearance at the hotel and delivered gifts, creating truly unforgettable memories for our children. We will certainly return in the future to further enjoy and explore Barcelona. Knowing that we have this hotel as our home away from home makes the experience even more special.

We stayed at the grand Hyatt for a total of 4 nights. We were extremely impressed with the cleanliness and modern decor of the hotel. The staff at reception were extremely friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. They acknowledged multiple special occasions we were celebrating aswell as giving us a complementary late checkout and our room was ready promptly upon arrival. The spa was amazing, however it was slightly pricey considering we were hotel residents ( 40 euros pp for one hr and a half ). We would not recommend the rooftop bar, which we visited on two occasions during our stay. The first night we arrived they told us last orders had already passed and the staff were laughing amongst themselves whilst telling us this even though the opening hrs stated otherwise. On the second visit we were extremely disappointed as we were seated and waited 15 mins whilst watching staff socialise and smoke with guests at the table next to us. We made eye contact multiple times to ensure they knew we were there and ready to order, they proceeded to ignore that we were there and when we left to walk out after being ignored for so long the staff once again just watched us leave and laugh amongst themselves. We were incredibly disappointed and would not recommend the rooftop bar for future guests.
