Reviews for The Peninsula Beijing

An unforgettable stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

The Peninsula Hotel Beijing is a truly exceptional hotel experience. The warm welcome, the luxurious suite, the stunning hotel, and the extraordinary personalised service. However, what truly stood out to me was the outstanding level of customer service and gracefulness from every member of the team. Ludi Zi is the lady who took care of us during our stay with genuine care and kindness. Ludi’s attention to detail and warm hospitality elevated our entire experience—nothing was ever too much trouble, and every request was met with a smile and swift response. She is a true asset to The Peninsula team. The Peninsula Beijing consists of suites only and each suite is designed to perfection. Each suite is spacious with modern luxury and timeless Chinese artistry, high tech features and marble bathroom. The gentle but consistent hum of Beijing can be seen from the suite windows and the city night light brings out the beauty of the city. The Peninsula Beijing will exceed every expectation and it is a hotel I would return to, time and again.

Peninsula Beijing sets the bar in comfort and service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

We stayed at The Peninsula Beijing recently and were genuinely impressed on almost every level. First off, the staff’s English skills are far above any other hotel we experienced in China. Every question or request was understood right away—no confusion, no awkward moments. It made everything feel smooth and welcoming. The internet deserves special mention: it’s high quality, fast, and offers near full access without the frustrating restrictions you often run into elsewhere. If you rely on staying connected, this is a big plus. Our room was huge, spotlessly clean, and packed with high-tech touches that actually worked. Lighting, curtains, and entertainment were all easy to control. We genuinely enjoyed spending time there. Don’t miss the rooftop bar. It’s top notch—great views, excellent cocktails, and a relaxed vibe that feels exclusive without being pretentious. Only the breakfast was a little inconsistent. The selection feels a bit scattered—so many options, but not always clearly organized. That said, the quality of the food itself was excellent. Overall, The Peninsula Beijing is a fantastic choice if you want comfort, service, and a truly international standard of hospitality right in the heart of Beijing.

Excellent

Exceptional staff in a really excellent hotel. The building itself is a bit old but the rooms are well refurbished with a feeling of discrete luxury. Great gym, superb spa and absolutely brilliant staff all round.

Not what I expected

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Peninsular Hotel Beijing An imposing building and one entered a spacious initial lobby which held the Concierge and Bell Desks. Then into the hotel proper to face an enormous staircase leading up to the second floor ,very austere and not at all welcoming…reminded me of a municipal building/bank. ( Interestingly on the in-room TV there is a presentation by the designer who raves about this staircase and harkens back to a Chinese Golden Age….he’s missed the plot entirely, the Peninsular is a Hotel not a Museum, one's first impression needs to be “welcoming” not “foreboding”.) Then where do we go ,right or left, luckily we followed our Guide who led us to the far right corner of the lobby to reach a pokey little recess where there was a small 2 meter desk with a “Cashier” sign ,no indication of “Reception" (i.e.Welcome) We stood in line and eventually reached the front. ( What ever happened to the 5 Star Welcome where you were guided to a seat at a desk ,given a cleansing towel and a welcome drink?….not a this Peninsular!) I handed the girl my Credit Card for incidentals and we collected our keys and made our way to the lifts. The Lobby itself is “barren” no armchairs ,tables, NOTHING,and this is both sides of the austere staircase ,void of any waiting comfort. ( the breakfast cafe is wrapped behind the staircase ,but not suitable for relaxing.) Luckily there was a Grand Piano in the lobby and for each of the 3 mornings while I was waiting for our guide, I pulled the stool from under the piano and used that and waited there ,otherwise it was sitting on the stairs or the airconditioning shelf..as many people actually used... or sitting on the floor!! The Suite was very well appointed with all the amenities including an office set-up with a printer. The bathroom had a wonderful large bath which we appreciated. The Twin Beds where rather small in width, more suitable for children and I often found myself nearly sliding over the edge (Luckily the other 2 Hotels we stayed at in China had more appropriate width beds for adults ) I am not a great fan of “dimming “ light press pads and these ones meant pressing the pad for at least 5 seconds to switch on or off….annoying. Also they didn’t have a “night light” feature so you had to grope along the wall in the dark to find the light pad. On checking my Credit Card activity I saw that the Hotel had charged me RMB6000 (nearly USD900.00 ) for incidentals ,on check-in ,being rather jet-lagged I thought she said RMB 600. This is a ridiculous amount for Incidentals and their policy is RMB2000 a day ,so If you stayed the a week your credit-card would be hit with over USD2,000.00 which is exorbitant etc.etc. Being familiar with thePeninsular in Hong Kong ,London,Beverly Hills and Bangkok it doesn’t seem to me that the Beijing Property is “on brand”..

Best of Beijing hotels

A special hotel full of special people! We stayed at the beginning of our trip to China, a wonderful place to "land" after long flights! Walking in the door to wonderful bell service (thanks Jack) our bags were handled with care. Then to the front desk with Juniper and her coworkers taking professional care with kindness in every way. Also must say after touring the Forbidden City, hot and tired, the bed was indeed wonderfully comfortable. We then returned at the end of our tour of China (3 weeks later) to staff who remembered us with smiles. Breakfast is just delicious and attentive staff to get whatever you might need (including boxes for items should you need), cannot compliment the whole crew enough. Do not miss this great spot, excellent English speaking attention and help with anything and everything.
