Originally built in the 1930’s, SO/ Berlin Das Stue’s diplomatic legacy is evident in the heritage building’s stately architecture and modernist façade, designed by German architect Johann Emil Schaudt (1871-1957) and inspired by Danish classicism. Located in Berlin’s diplomatic quarter, Das Stue was renovated to invoke a calming ambiance, with open spaces and contemporary minimalist design. The Potsdam based firm Axthelm Architekten added a new wing on the building’s former back courtyard, which is clad in a floral patterned photo concrete surface acting as an elegant counterbalance to the rough dressed stone of the main building. While Patricia Urquiola artistically directed and designed all public spaces and fluidly integrated shared spaces such as the lobby, cocktail bar and restaurants, LVG Arquitectura finalized the interior room and suite design.

Endlich habe ich es mal wieder ins Stue geschafft. Und ich bin begeistert! Super Personal, leckeres Essen und der gewohnte diskrete Flair. Wirklich Empfehlenswert! Original Entrecote sucht in Berlin seines Gleichen. Zwiebelsuppe frisch am Tisch zubereitet einmalig und super lecker.

This is one of my favourite hotels in Europe. It has everything. Stylish quirky comfortable and lovely staff. I like it when your bedroom is laid out differently from every other boring hotel. From the helpful friendly doorman to the concierge Matteo who sorted our restaurant bookings everything was 5 star. The art work ( mostly classic photographs) was stunning. Breakfast was top class. Warm croissants. Fresh made french toast perfect bacon and fresh berries. And…… the toaster worked. Squeezed orange juice and lovely cold cuts. Couldn’t fault it. My only 2 small points. The bath towels in the room were too small and there are no English speaking channels other than 2 news channels. There should be at least a couple of sky channels. Other than that I cant recommend this hotel highly enough.

Overall nice hotel with a fun location in the city but poor checkin, dinning and staff experiences. Pros: The location is right by the zoo which is fun and it's very easy to get to and from other locations in the city by bike, walking or taxi. It also felt like a nice quiet neighborhood and we got great sleep. Cons: What started to be a nice tour of the hotel to see different rooms led to us trying to be upsold to a higher priced room. It was very awkward and unprofessional. The restaurant also wasn't able to confirm things didn't have nuts which was very strange. most restaurants know enough about their ingredients to know what has nuts and what doesn't. At breakfast there was often only 1 or 2 people working which left bad service even though people were working very quickly.

Nestled on a quiet street that feels like an embassy row, DAS STUE is a stunning retreat, offering a peaceful escape from the bustle of other Berlin neighborhoods. Formerly the Danish Embassy, and reimagined by Patricia Urquiola, this beautifully curated hotel was everything I needed for a romantic weeklong getaway. Its neighbor, the Berlin Zoo, adds to the tranquil ambiance—if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of some animals! Upon arrival, we enjoyed a lovely lunch at the hotel's bar, and every morning, we indulged in a delicious breakfast featuring eggs and French toast on request, along with an incredible selection of smoked fish, spreads, fresh fruit, nuts, yogurt, and an endless variety of German-style breads. The spa area, complete with a sauna, provided the perfect space to unwind. (Take note its a German style Sauna--textile free...!) DAS STUE is also ideally located—within walking distance of traditional shopping areas like Ku’damm and just a short taxi ride from everything else. Would love to be back!
