Good Location, Average Experience
The location and atmosphere were good, but the rooms (at least mine) need some updating. I stayed in a double-bed room; one of the mattresses clearly needs to be replaced, while the other was fine. Some of the furniture, including the central table and desk, was chipped. For the price, I expected a higher standard. Regarding the front desk service, I was offered an early check-in for an additional $100. It was almost noon, and I only needed to change my shoes for a business meeting. Instead, I was told to use the restroom, which had no chairs — small details like that can make a big difference in the overall experience.

Great Location, Great Hotel
From start to finish, I enjoyed a great stay. Facility: The building is a couple of decades old, but it is well-maintained. My room was beautiful, with windows onto Commonwealth, a super comfortable bed, a small fridge, and a clean/convenient bath. The elevators are some of the fastest I've seen in a hotel, which is very welcome if you have ever waited, excessively long for a hotel elevators (as I have). There's a decent fitness center, which is well-maintained and available 24 hours. There's a great coffee service at 6:30 AM every day. Staff: Where this hotel really shines is the staff. The assistant manager I spoke with, Jonathan, genuinely cares about the quality of interactions with guests, and it shows. Every single member of the hotel staff with whom I interacted was outstanding. Having worked in the catering field when I was younger, I know that to achieve such a high level of guest service, requires a dedication to training employees into a positive culture. The Hotel Commonwealth reaches exactly the right balance. They are friendly without being overbearing, and helpful without being intrusive or condescending. With a beautiful facility, and an impeccable exemplary staff, the hotel by itself is fantastic in my opinion. Add in the amazing location, which is close (few minutes walking distance) to several quite excellent international restaurants, and within walking distance of Boston University. The hotel sits right next to the Kenmore green line stop. Just down the block, there is a BlueBike hub. Could not ask for a better hotel with a better staff. Five stars.

I will always stay at the Hotel Commonwealth when I’m in Boston
This may be my favorite hotel ever. The staff always goes above and beyond. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. Everything about this hotel is perfect. The suites are amazing but you can’t go wrong with the standard rooms too. The valet service and bellman are unmatched!
