The Liberty Hotel

Would love to have a room to review, check-in time is 4 pm, it's 6 pm & room still not ready with no commitment of when it will be ready

My husband needed a surgical procedure at Mass General Hospital and the Liberty Hotel was right across the street from it so it seemed like the perfect place to stay over. It wasn't terrible but the room there was not much room to move around and only one chair & a small desk area. The toilet seat was ~ 14" off the floor... certainly good for little kids but... There was a tiny bar of soap... (good thing I brought my own). It looks beautiful on the outside - inside is also pretty impressive but the room really was "average".. they say it's European style.. I've been in several countries in Europe - and will say that you never know what you'll get in Europe - the UK, Ireland, Germany... so in that sense, yes, it's European style.. I'll think of it as a Faux Europe Hotel... On the Positive side I must add that the Staff were Very Nice. People really do make a difference and that helps alot. Also, I had a very delicious faux meat burger at their restaurant - the best meatless burger I've ever had...

We stayed there three nights. I had been wanting to stay at this property for years as I was fascinated with its history plus Luxury Collection hotels are always our favorites. This one was so disappointing. It started with a room that the shower looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. The front desk agent agreed. The bathroom floor grout was also very very dirty. We were moved to a different room the following night. The shower had been “deep cleaned”. I could smell the bleach in the shower so I do know an attempt had been made. That said, I took a white wash cloth and wiped the grout at 4.5-5 feet from the ground (the area you are closely seeing in a small shower) and it was clear that it hadn’t been wiped in quite some time. The front desk manager that night told me “it’s just the grout”. Bless his heart…Grout doesn’t wipe off. Dirt, slime and mildew do wipe off though. Neither room had stained grout as a wet (no soap or cleaner) wash cloth would simply wipe the scum off the grout. The bathroom floor was in the same state as the previous room. A wet wash cloth and a tiny bit of scrubbing showed it hadn’t been cleaned. The same grout was on the side of the tub and that grout was clean! It gets even more interesting…. We went down to get a cup of coffee one morning. You take paper cups from a stack which is upside down. Then you fill your cup from one of the big vats of coffee and pour milk/cream in from a canister which has a lid nicely screwed on. My hubby is drinking the coffee (he had a lid on it) 5 mins after pouring his cup and feels something in his mouth. It was a DEAD FLY! I go back to the coffee station, pour more and realize the only place this could have come from was the coffee vat. When I poured it I watched the nice stream and see that it is allowing enough liquid out that something more substantial than liquid could come out of the spout. The food and beverage manager was in shock and took care of our coffee needs. I was so looking forward to our stay here. I sadly cannot recommend anyone stay her. It was a jail and the standards seem to be back to that level.

The hotel was one of the nicest in the world. Very unique and a perfect location. Casey at the front desk took great care of our famitl. Very attentive to details. We will return. J Sargeant

The front desk staff are the kindest most efficient crew I’ve ever encountered. My daughter was traveling and had to have emergency surgery at Mass Gen. After a week in the hospital she had to recuperate in Boston for several days afterwards. The staff at The Liberty were absolutely unbelievable to us, and especially me. They were kind and caring and went out of their way to make me comfortable and feel supported. Their only concern was my daughter’s recovery. It is so refreshing to encounter people who care about others. I cannot say enough about the lovely staff and hotel. And the lobby was filled with activity and people and parties. It seemed like a very popular spot to be. I highly recommend.
