About the Hotel

Originally designed by prolific Bozeman architect Fred Fielding Willson and built in 1941 to house the Bozeman National Guard, the landmark Armory building is a timeless example of Art Deco design. Today, the building begins a new chapter as the Kimpton Armory Hotel, though details of its rich past have been lovingly preserved. From our warm and inviting communal spaces, to our stylish yet comfortable 122 guest rooms and suites, the new look and feel of the hotel fuses the ruggedly handsome and the tastefully modern, while drawing inspiration from the natural panorama of the region itself.

Best place to stay in Bozeman

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

This is the third time that i have stayed here. All 3 times, i have enjoyed my stay. During my recent stay, i had an uplanned early check out at the Element due to problems with the room. Klimtpon staff was amazing, the room was spacious, well appointed and clean. The front desk staff and valet staff were very professional. The room at the Klimpton was cheaper and a lot cleaner then the Element. The food in the restaurant Fieldings was very good too. I would recommend the Klimpton as the best hotel to stay in Bozeman.

Beauty is only slightly more than skin deep

It's a beautiful place, a clever restoration of what apparently was an actual military armory. The design is appealing, the room (a 1-bedroom suite) appeared to be very upscale and visually appealing. The positives: the valet guys were great, the front desk people were helpful and efficient. The location was fine. The room was spacious. The shower nozzle was one of the best I've ever used, anywhere. Breakfast was nice. On the downside, someone already mentioned the amenities fee, which we were aware of but nonetheless found to be a bit much. The mattress was sagging on one side; I found that odd given the relative newness of the hotel. There was one very tiny bar of soap in the bathroom along with the squirt bottles in the shower, a rather cheapskate feature given the ~$500 price of the room. The towels were frayed and coarse. None of these were deal-breakers, and sadly on trend with other upscale properties the past few years, I suppose. Penny-wise, pound foolish. The restaurant's reputation was frankly the reason we decided to stay in Bozeman, which was 100 miles out of our way (we were driving from Kalispell to SLC). We were extremely frustrated to find the restaurant closed for a private event. Room service was also closed. That left us to eat dinner in the bar which had a VERY limited menu (apparently because it was not Thursday through Saturday) and with music so loud we had to point at the menu to order dinner and drinks. The quality of the food was good, the servers did their best given the situation. But leaving your paying guests with such a limited option in order to host a private event seems, well, shortsighted. Bottom line, the physical qualities of the property and the professionalism of the staff deserve more thought to be given to making guests feel comfortable.

Secret guest amenities charges

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

After paying in advance for our room, and leaving a credit card to be billed for incidentals when we checked in, we were billed $35/day for unknown Guest amenities. When we inquired about the charges, we were directed toward some very fine print in the original billing agreement. I have never encountered this type of slight of hand from a hotel in my 70 years. Cudos to your valet staff. They were tremendous. It is a shame we will not be able to avail ourselves to their great customer service in the future.

Service and noise disaster, stay away!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Have been on trip advisor for more than 10 years, frequent traveler and hotel customer, United 1k, Hilton Diamond and Bonvoy Gold, and have never left a negative review on any business before, but the Kimpton Bozeman was an experience I wouldn't expect or tolerate at a $25 back country roadside motel. Checked in very late at night, 1-2am for much needed sleep. Awakened by loud construction noises and hammering next to our room at 8:30am. Mistakes happen, but the shocking part was the staff refused to stop the noise. That shouldn't happen at a four star, three star, or any room you are paying for. At the very least tell the guests on reservation or at check in that the hotel is under construction and they will NOT have a quiet room past 8:30am. Complained on check out and was told they couldn't control noise or construction at their own hotel. Would give zero stars if I could. Go elsewhere if you want a hotel that cares about their customers. You'll get better sleep and service in the McDonald's parking lot in your car.

A Very Nice Place To Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This hotel is a delightful place to stay. Valet parking is convenient and valet attendants are quick and polite when taking and bringing back your vehicle. Hotel is very clean with tasteful and cozy decor. Top-floor hotel outside area is a wonderful place to enjoy the views on couches and chairs next to fire pits. Food is excellent in all of the dining rooms. The suite we stayed in was spacious, clean and quiet. Daily room cleaning is offered. Basement bar was a treat at night with live music, a happy crowd and very personable bartenders. Very impressed with this hotel, will be staying here again.
